Abstract

A method includes receiving and processing an electronic signal that represents television content to provide a first media signal that is playable to present a forward-playback of the television content. The method also includes, responsive to a first instruction, providing a second media signal that is playable to present a reverse-playback of the television content, and recording a portion of the television content that corresponds to the reverse-playback. Further, the method includes, responsive to a second instruction, stopping the recording of the television content. In addition, the method includes, responsive to a third instruction, saving one or more recorded portions of the television content. The method also includes, responsive to receiving a fourth instruction, communicating the saved recording of the television content to a separate computing device.

Claims (58)

1. A method comprising:

presenting, by a processing system comprising a processor, a reverse-play of media content, wherein the presenting of the reverse-play of the media content is responsive to receiving a reverse-play request during a forward-play presentation of the media content, and wherein the reverse-play of the media content and the forward-play of the media content are playable simultaneously on a display device;

recording, by the processing system, a portion of the reverse-play of the media content, wherein the recording results in a recorded portion;

receiving, by the processing system, a stop instruction to stop the recording of the reverse-play of the media content; and

responsive to receiving the stop instruction, stopping, by the processing system, the recording of the reverse-play of the media content and continuing presentation of the reverse-play of the media content as a continued reverse-play.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, by the processing system, the reverse-play request during the forward-play presentation of the media content.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processing system, a store instruction; and

responsive to the store instruction, saving, by the processing system, the recorded portion in a forward-playback order, wherein the saving results in a forward-order recorded portion.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processing system, a share instruction to communicate the forward-order recorded portion to a separate processing system; and

responsive to the share instruction, communicating, by the processing system, the forward-order recorded portion to the separate processing system.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processing system, a message to accompany the forward-order recorded portion;

wherein the communicating further comprises communicating the message, along with the forward-order recorded portion, to the separate processing system.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

responsive to another reverse-play request, recording, by the processing system, another portion of another reverse-play of the media content, wherein the recording that is responsive to the another reverse-play request results in another recorded portion.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

receiving, by the processing system, a store instruction;

responsive to the store instruction, concatenating, by the processing system, the recorded portion and the another recorded portion, wherein each of the recorded portion and the another recorded portion that are concatenated are saved together in a forward-playback order.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reverse-play of the media content and the forward-play of the media content are playable simultaneously on the display device in a picture-in-a-picture configuration.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processing system comprises a set-top box.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processing system comprises a first processing system, wherein the media content is simultaneously broadcast from a media broadcasting system to a plurality of user processing systems, and wherein the plurality of user processing systems includes the first processing system.

11. A computing device, comprising:

a processing system including a processor; and

a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

presenting a first reverse-play of media content, wherein the presenting of the first reverse-play of the media content is responsive to receiving a first reverse-play request during a forward-play presentation of the media content;

recording a first portion of the first reverse-play of the media content, wherein the recording results in a first recorded portion;

receiving a first stop instruction to stop the first recording of the first reverse-play of the media content;

responsive to receiving the first stop instruction, stopping the first recording of the first reverse-play of the media content and continuing presentation of the first reverse-play of the media content as a first continued reverse-play;

presenting a second reverse-play of the media content, wherein the presenting of the second reverse-play of the media content is responsive to receiving a second reverse-play request during the forward-play presentation of the media content;

recording a second portion of the second reverse-play of the media content, wherein the recording of the second portion of the second reverse-play of the media content results in a second recorded portion;

receiving a second stop instruction to stop the recording of the second portion of the second reverse-play of the media content; and

concatenating the first recorded portion and the second recorded portion as a concatenated recording, wherein each of the first recorded portion and the second recorded portion that are concatenated are saved together in a forward-playback order.

12. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the second portion of the second reverse-play of the media content comprises all of the second reverse-play of the media content.

13. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:

responsive to receiving the second stop instruction, continuing presentation of the second reverse-play of the media content as a second continued reverse-play.

14. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the forward-play presentation of the media content is playable simultaneously on a display device with the first reverse-play of the media content, the second reverse-play of the media content, or any combination thereof.

15. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving the first reverse-play request during the forward-play presentation of the media content; and

receiving the second reverse-play request during the forward-play presentation of the media content.

16. The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a share instruction to communicate the concatenated recording to a separate processing system; and

responsive to the share instruction, communicating the concatenated recording to the separate processing system.

17. The computing device of claim 16 , wherein the operations further comprise:

receiving a message to accompany the concatenated recording;

wherein the communicating further comprises communicating the message, along with the concatenated recording, to the separate processing system.

18. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:

presenting, during a forward-play presentation of media content, a reverse-play of the media content, wherein the presenting of the reverse-play of the media content is responsive to receiving a reverse-play request during the forward-play presentation of the media content;

recording a part of the reverse-play of the media content, wherein the recording results in a recorded part;

receiving a first instruction to stop the recording of the reverse-play of the media content;

responsive to receiving the first instruction, stopping the recording of the reverse-play of the media content;

responsive to receiving the first instruction, continuing presentation of the reverse-play of the media content as a continued reverse-play;

receiving a second instruction;

responsive to the second instruction, saving the recorded part in a forward-playback order as a forward-order recorded part; and

responsive to the second instruction, communicating the forward-order recorded part to a separate processing system.

19. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the forward-play presentation of the media content is simultaneously broadcast from a media broadcasting system to a plurality of user computing devices, and wherein the plurality of user computing devices includes a first user computing device on which the executable instructions are executed.

20. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the first user computing device comprises a set-top box.
