Abstract

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention provide for deploying an offering to a customer in a data processing system having an offering platform program. The offering platform program includes a web services framework for providing web services. A set of standard web service interfaces is provided.

Claims (16)

1. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium on which a server offering platform (SOP) is instantiated, the SOP having a set of web service interfaces for execution of a first web service on a computer, the set of web service interfaces comprising: a business service interface that provides business process functionality, wherein the business process functionality includes an offering describing capabilities of the first web service; a compensation interface configured to handle failure of the first web service resulting from at least one of intermittent connectivity and poor transmission quality resulting in improper execution of one or more of the capabilities, wherein the handling of the failure of the first web service described by the offering driven through the business service interface includes retracting a previously applied operation associated with one or more of the capabilities for the first web service; a maintenance interface configured to control the first web service within a system comprising a plurality of SOP's, wherein the control of the first web service comprises stopping the first web service and starting the first web service and further wherein, in response to the starting and stopping of the first web service, the maintenance interface uses a dependency map of the first web service and a second web service on which the first web service is dependent in the dependency map to start and stop the second web service; and a management interface configured to monitor the first web service, the management interface including a tracing functionality of tracing web services.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the maintenance interface provides functions for starting and stopping the first web service.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the management interface provides a function for determining whether the first web service is operational.

4. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the capabilities described by the offering include a definition of deployment of the offering including where and how the offering is implemented on an asset.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the maintenance interface shuts down dependent web services in the dependency map in an asynchronous manner.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 1 , wherein the dependency map is updated upon registration of offerings associated with the web services with one of the SOP's.

7. A method of providing a set of web service interfaces on a server offering platform (SOP) in a data processing system having at least one processor for execution of a first web service, said method comprising: instantiating, via a processor, a business service interface that provides business process functionality for at least one offering to be deployed to at least one asset; instantiating, via the processor, a dependency map of the first web service and a plurality of other web services for a plurality of other offerings, wherein the first web service is dependent on at least a second web service of the plurality of other web services in the dependency map; instantiating, via the processor, a compensation interface configured to handle failure of the first web service resulting from at least one of intermittent connectivity and poor transmission quality; instantiating, via the processor, a maintenance interface configured to control the first web service within a system comprising a plurality of SOP's, wherein the control of the first web service comprises stopping the first web service and starting the first web service and further wherein, in response to the starting and stopping of the first web service, the maintenance interface uses the dependency map to start and stop the second web service; and instantiating, via the processor, a management interface that enables monitoring of the first web service, the management interface including a tracing functionality of tracing web services.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the compensation interface provides an undo function for a previous compensation transaction for the first web service related to the business process functionality and associated with the failure.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the management interface provides a function for determining whether the first web service is operational.

10. The method of claim 7 , further including modifying the dependency map upon registration of offerings associated with the web services with one of the SOP's.

11. The method of claim 7 , further including shutting down dependent web services in the dependency map in an asynchronous manner.

12. A data processing system for providing a server offering platform (SOP) having a set of web service interfaces, the data processing system comprising: a memory having a program for instantiating: a business service interface configured to provide business process functionality through a first web service for at least one offering to be deployed to at least one asset, a compensation interface configured to handle failure of the first web service resulting from at least one of intermittent connectivity and poor transmission quality, a maintenance interface configured to control the first web service within a system comprising a plurality of SOP's, wherein the control of the first web service comprises stopping the first web service and starting the first web service and further wherein, in response to the starting and stopping of the first web service, the maintenance interface uses a dependency map of the first web service and a second web service on which the first web service is dependent in the dependency map to start and stop the second web service, and a management interface configured to monitor the first web service, the management interface including an entitlement framework restricting access to each of a plurality of web services on an asset basis including determining an entitlement to an offering associated with a particular one of the plurality web services for an asset requesting the particular one of the web services; and a processor.

13. The data processing system of claim 12 , wherein the compensation interface provides an undo function retracting a previously applied operation associated with one or more of the capabilities in response to the failure of the first web service.

14. The data processing system of claim 12 , wherein the program modifies the dependency map upon registration of offerings associated with the plurality of web services with one of the SOP's.

15. The data processing system of claim 12 , wherein the management interface provides a function for determining whether the first web service is operational.

16. The data processing system of claim 12 , wherein the maintenance interface shuts down dependent web services in the dependency map in an asynchronous manner.
