Abstract

A cartridge includes a photosensitive drum and a discharge opening for permitting discharge of toner removed from the photosensitive drum to outside of the cartridge. The cartridge also includes a coupling member provided adjacent to the discharge opening and configured to output a rotational force, with the coupling member being movable relative to the photosensitive drum between (i) a first position and (ii) a second position retracted from the first position.

Claims (66)

1. A cartridge comprising:

a photosensitive drum;

a discharge opening for permitting discharge of toner removed from the photosensitive drum to outside of the cartridge; and

a coupling member provided adjacent to the discharge opening and configured to output a rotational force, the coupling member being movable relative to the photosensitive drum between (i) a first position and (ii) a second position retracted from the first position.

2. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a feeding passageway for permitting movement of the toner removed from the photosensitive drum.

3. A cartridge according to claim 2 , wherein the feeding passageway includes a first feeding passageway in which the toner is movable in a direction of a rotational axis of the photosensitive drum.

A cartridge according to claim 3 , wherein the feeding passageway includes a second feeding passageway in which the toner is movable in a direction crossing the rotational axis direction of the photosensitive drum, the second feeding passageway being in fluid communication with the first feeding passageway.

5. A cartridge according to claim 4 , further comprising a feeding member provided inside the first feeding passageway to feed the toner.

A cartridge according to claim 5 , wherein the feeding member includes (i) a first feeding portion for feeding the toner to a communicating portion between the first feeding passageway and the second feeding passageway, and (ii) a second feeding portion, provided downstream of the first feeding portion with respect to a toner feeding direction of the first feeding portion, for feeding the toner in a direction opposite to the feeding direction of the first feeding portion.

7. A cartridge according to claim 4 , wherein the second feeding passageway is a discharging passageway for permitting the toner to move to the discharge opening.

8. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the discharging passageway moves the toner in a direction crossing a rotational axis of the photosensitive drum.

9. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the discharging passageway is disposed adjacent to an end of the cartridge with respect to the rotational axis direction of the photosensitive drum.

10. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the coupling member is disposed adjacent to a terminal end of the discharging passageway.

11. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the coupling member constitutes at least a part of the discharging passageway.

12. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein at least a part of the coupling member is inside the discharging passageway.

13. A cartridge according to claim 7 , wherein the discharging passageway is deformable, and the coupling member moves with deformation of the discharging passageway.

14. A cartridge according to claim 13 , wherein the discharging passageway is deformable to expand and contract.

15. A cartridge according to claim 13 , further comprising an elastically deformable portion constituting at least a part of the discharging passageway,

wherein the coupling member moves by deformation of the elastically deformable portion.

16. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a feeding member for feeding the toner removed from the photosensitive drum.

A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein, as the cartridge is seen in a direction of a rotational axis of the photosensitive drum, a rotational center of the photosensitive drum and a rotational center of the cartridge side feeding member are disposed on opposite sides with respect to a line along a rotational axis of the coupling member.

18. A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein the coupling member is rotatable in interrelation with rotation of the feeding member.

19. A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein the feeding member feeds the toner along an axial direction of the photosensitive drum.

20. A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein a distance between the coupling member in the second position and a rotational axis of the feeding member is shorter than a distance between the coupling member in the first position and the rotational axis of the feeding member.

21. A cartridge according to claim 16 , wherein the coupling member is movable in a direction crossing with a rotational axis direction of the feeding member.

22. A cartridge according to claim 16 , further comprising a drive transmitting portion for transmitting the rotational force from the feeding member to the coupling member.

23. A cartridge according to claim 22 , wherein the drive transmitting portion includes a plurality of engaging portions, which are sequentially engaged by the feeding member with rotation of the feeding member.

24. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a discharging passageway for permitting the toner to move to the discharge opening.

25. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is movable in a direction crossing a rotational axis direction of the photosensitive drum.

26. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is rotatable in interrelation with rotation of the photosensitive drum.

27. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is configured to be rotated by rotation of the photosensitive drum.

28. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a developing roller configured to develop a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum with the toner.

29. A cartridge according to any one of claim 28 , wherein the coupling member is rotatable in interrelation with rotation of the developing roller.

30. A cartridge according to claim 28 , wherein the coupling member is configured to be rotated by rotation of the developing roller.

31. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a developing roller configured to develop a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum with the toner; and

a supplying roller configured to supply the toner to the developing roller,

wherein the coupling member is rotatable in interrelation with rotation of the supplying roller.

32. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a developing roller configured to develop a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum with the toner; and

a supplying roller configured to supply the toner to the developing roller, and

wherein the coupling member is configured to be rotated by rotation of the supplying roller.

33. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a drive inputting portion for receiving a rotational force from outside of the cartridge, wherein the cartridge is configured such that the rotational force received by the drive inputting portion is transmitted to the coupling member.

34. A cartridge according to claim 33 , wherein the photosensitive drum is connected to the drive inputting portion.

35. A cartridge according to claim 33 , further comprising:

a developing roller configured to develop a latent image formed on the photosensitive drum with toner;

a supplying roller configured to supply the toner to the developing roller,

wherein the supplying roller is connected to the drive inputting portion.

36. A cartridge according to claim 35 , wherein the coupling member is configured to receive the rotational force from the drive inputting portion via the developing roller.

37. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member constitutes at least a part of the discharge opening.

38. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the discharge opening is opened and closed by movement of the coupling member.

39. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member includes an elastically deformable portion, and the coupling member is moved by deformation of the elastically deformable portion.

40. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the cartridge includes a cleaning member for removing the toner from the photosensitive drum.

41. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a moving force receiving portion for receiving a force for moving the coupling member from an outside of the cartridge.

42. A cartridge according to claim 41 , wherein the moving force receiving portion is configured to receive to the force so as to move the coupling member from the second position to the first position.

43. A cartridge according to claim 42 , further comprising an urging member for urging the coupling member,

wherein the coupling member is movable against an urging force of the urging member by the force received by the moving force receiving portion.

44. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising an urging member for urging the coupling member toward the second position.

45. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein the coupling member is in the second position in a free state thereof.

46. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a shutter for opening and closing the discharge opening.

47. A cartridge according to claim 46 , further comprising a cover portion covering the shutter at least partially as seen along an opening direction in which the shutter moves to open the discharge opening, the cover portion being disposed upstream of the shutter with respect to the opening direction of the shutter.

48. A cartridge according to claim 1 , wherein a distance between the coupling member in the second position and a rotational axis of the photosensitive drum is shorter than a distance between the coupling member in the first position and the rotational axis of the photosensitive drum.

49. A cartridge according to claim 1 , further comprising a connecting portion for connecting the discharge opening with outside of the cartridge, wherein the connecting portion is movable with movement of the coupling member.

50. A electrophotographic image forming apparatus comprising:

a cartridge according to claim 1 ; and

a main assembly of the electrophotographic image forming apparatus.
