Abstract

An extended reality (XR) system includes an extended reality application executing on a processor within the XR system. The XR system receives, via a client device, a selection of an extended reality (XR) object located within an XR environment. The XR system receives, via the client device, a request to move the selected XR object within the XR environment. The XR system calculates a first distance between a first feature of the XR object and a first plane associated with a first physical object within the XR environment. The XR system determines that the first distance is within a particular distance. In response to determining that the first distance is within the particular distance, the XR system positions the first feature within the XR environment such that the first feature is coplanar with the first plane.

Claims (52)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving, via a client device, a selection of an extended reality (XR) object located within an XR environment, wherein the XR environment includes at least another XR object;

receiving, via the client device, a request to move the selected XR object within the XR environment;

determining a first plane coplanar with an edge or a face of the another XR object or of a first physical object within the XR environment;

generating a first guideline that is coplanar with the first plane and is an extension of an edge or a face of the another XR object;

calculating a first distance between an edge or a face of the XR object and the first guideline;

determining a threshold distance for causing the XR object to be attached to the first guideline;

determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance; and

in response to determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance, attaching the XR object to the first guideline.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising performing plane detection within the XR environment to detect one or more planes including the first plane.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

performing plane detection within the XR environment to detect one or more planes including the first plane; and

for each plane included in the one or more planes, determining a value of a respective threshold distance for the corresponding plane.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the threshold distance for the plane is based on the XR object.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the threshold distance for the plane is based on a size of the XR object.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the threshold distance for the plane is based on a size of the edge or the face of the XR object.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising discarding an input to move the XR object based on the XR object being attached to the first guideline.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the XR object to the first guideline comprises positioning the edge or the face of the XR object to be collinear with the first guideline.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an input to move the XR object attached to the first guideline more than the threshold distance away from the first guideline; and

detaching the XR object from the first guideline.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein attaching the XR object to the first guideline comprises overriding a magnitude of the request to move the XR object within the XR environment to attach the XR object to the first guideline.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance, generating an output that indicates that a first feature of the XR object is coplanar with the first plane.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising, in response to determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance, generating an output that indicates that a first feature of the XR object is to be attached to the first guideline, wherein the output includes at least one of a haptic feedback, a change in color of at least a portion of the XR object, a highlight associated with the first plane, a shadow projected onto the first plane, or emission of a sound.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the XR object comprises a visualization of search query results received from a data intake and query system.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the XR object is associated with the first physical object, and the XR object comprises a visualization of search query results regarding the first physical object.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the XR object comprises a rectangular object that is a visualization of search query results received from a data intake and query system.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the XR object comprises a rectangular object that includes one or more of a video clip, an audio clip, a document, or a still image.

17. One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media including instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

receiving, via a client device, a selection of an extended reality (XR) object located within an XR environment, wherein the XR environment includes at least another XR object;

receiving, via the client device, a request to move the selected XR object within the XR environment;

determining a first plane coplanar with an edge or a face of the another XR object or of a first physical object within the XR environment;

generating a first guideline that is coplanar with the first plane and is an extension of an edge or a face of the another XR object;

calculating a first distance between an edge or a face of the XR object and the first guideline;

determining a threshold distance for causing the XR object to be attached to the first guideline;

determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance; and

in response to determining that the first distance is within the threshold distance, attaching the XR object to the first guideline.

18. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 17 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the step of performing plane detection within the XR environment to detect one or more planes including the first plane.

19. The one or more computer-readable storage media of claim 17 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to perform the steps of:

performing plane detection within the XR environment to detect one or more planes including the first plane; and

for each plane included in the one or more planes, determining a value of a respective threshold distance for the corresponding plane.

20. A system, comprising:

a memory that includes instructions; and

a processor that is coupled to the memory and, when executing the instructions:

receives, via a client device, a selection of an extended reality (XR) object located within an XR environment, wherein the XR environment includes at least another XR object;

receives, via the client device, a request to move the selected XR object within the XR environment;

determines a first plane coplanar with an edge or a face of the another XR object or of a first physical object within the XR environment;

generates a first guideline that is coplanar with the first plane and is an extension of an edge or a face of the another XR object;
