System and method for selecting and providing zone-specific media
A system and method for providing zone-specific media to a user. As a non-limiting example, various aspects of this disclosure provide a system and method that flexibly selects and provides media content (e.g., audio content), where such content is selected based, at least in part, on a user location (e.g., location within a premises).
1. A wireless speaker comprising:
a loudspeaker;
a wireless communication interface configured to communicate with a wireless network that is in communication with one or more additional wireless speakers;
a processor; and
computer-readable memory in communication with the processor, the memory configured to store information that identifies a type of room that is associated with the wireless speaker, the memory storing instructions that are executable by the processor to cause the wireless speaker to:
transmit via the wireless communication interface an audio content request that includes the information that identifies the type of room that is associated with the wireless speaker;
in response to the audio content request, receive via the wireless communication interface audio content that is based at least in part on the type of room associated with the wireless speaker; and
output the received audio content using the loudspeaker.
2. The wireless speaker of claim 1 , wherein the audio content is advertising audio content.
3. The wireless speaker of claim 2 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to cause the wireless speaker to play an audio stream, and to output the advertising audio content during a commercial break in the audio stream.
4. The wireless speaker of claim 2 , wherein the type of room is a kitchen, and wherein the advertising audio content relates to food.
5. The wireless speaker of claim 1 , wherein the type of room comprises one of a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, a garage, an office, a family room, or a laundry room.
6. The wireless speaker of claim 1 , wherein the audio content is independent of user identity.
