Abstract

A nasal ventilation mask having one or more attachment ports located adjacent to and overlying an upper lip of a patient when worn.

Claims (26)

1. A nasal ventilation mask comprising:

a body forming a nasal chamber having a ventilation port and an end-tidal CO 2 port, the nasal chamber configured to extend over a nose of a patient and seal against a nasal bridge region and a lip region of the patient; and

an exhalation scoop integral with the nasal chamber and made of a flexible material such that the exhalation scoop is moveable relative to the body between a first position, in which the exhalation scoop is configured to overlie an upper lip of the patient, and a second position, in which the exhalation scoop is configured to allow access to a mouth of the patient to perform a procedure;

wherein the end-tidal CO2 port is configured for scavenging gases, such that a gas adjacent to and overlying the upper lip of the patient can move to the end-tidal CO 2 port when the exhalation scoop is in the first and second positions.

2. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the end-tidal CO 2 port is configured to couple with an exhalation collecting tube.

3. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the ventilation port is configured to couple with a ventilator such that a positive pressure can be formed in the nasal chamber.

4. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a generally triangularly-shaped frame having a perimeter seal and a nasal bridge seal, the nasal bridge seal formed of an elastic membrane bridging a nasal bridge region of the body and the perimeter seal.

5. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 4 , wherein the elastic membrane of the nasal bridge seal terminates at an inside edge of the perimeter seal.

6. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the exhalation scoop forms an oral chamber.

7. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the exhalation scoop is more flexible relative to the body.

8. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the body and the exhalation scoop are connected together by any of an elastomeric hinge, bridge, and expansion joint.

9. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the exhalation scoop is movable in a direction toward or away from the ventilation port.

10. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 1 , wherein the ventilation port extends in a first direction along a first axis, and the exhalation scoop extends from the body in a second direction along the first axis, wherein the second direction is opposite to the first direction.

11. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 10 , wherein the exhalation scoop is rotatable about a second axis that is transverse relative to the first axis.

12. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 11 , wherein the end-tidal CO2 port extends in a direction along the second axis.

13. A nasal ventilation mask comprising:

a body forming a nasal chamber having a ventilation port and an end-tidal CO 2 port, wherein the ventilation port extends in a first direction along a first axis and the nasal chamber is configured to extend over a nose of a patient and seal against a nasal bridge region and a lip region of the patient; and

an exhalation scoop integral with the nasal chamber and made of a flexible material, wherein the exhalation scoop extends from the body along the first axis in a second direction that is opposite to the first direction;

wherein a gas adjacent to and overlying an upper lip of the patient can move to the end-tidal CO 2 port when the exhalation scoop overlies the upper lip of the patient, and when the exhalation scoop is rotated away from the upper lip of the patient about a second axis that is transverse relative to the first axis.

14. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the body comprises a generally triangularly-shaped frame having a perimeter seal and a nasal bridge seal, the nasal bridge seal formed of an elastic membrane bridging a nasal bridge region of the body and the perimeter seal.

15. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 14 , wherein the elastic membrane of the nasal bridge seal terminates at an inside edge of the perimeter seal.

16. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the exhalation scoop forms an oral chamber.

17. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the exhalation scoop is more flexible relative to the body.

18. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the body and the exhalation scoop are connected together by any of an elastomeric hinge, bridge, and expansion joint.

19. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the exhalation scoop is movable in a direction toward or away from the ventilation port.

20. The nasal ventilation mask of claim 13 , wherein the end-tidal CO2 port extends in a direction along the second axis.
