Abstract

A computer-implemented method and system for verifying the identity of a user in an identity authentication and biometric verification system which includes collecting information from the user regarding the user's identity, which is then electronically authenticated. Upon authentication, personal information regarding the verified identity of the user is retrieved from a source database which is used to verify the identity of the user, via user interaction. Upon successful verification and authentication, biometric data regarding the user is electronically collected.

Claims (38)

1. A biometric identification system, comprising:

at least one non-transitory storage medium that stores instructions; and

at least one processor that executes the instructions to:

receive biographical information regarding a person from a first input component of an electronic device;

receive other information from a second input component of the electronic device that reads a physical item associated with the person;

determine the person with which to associate stored biometric data at least by using at least one of the biographical information or the other information to access data stored in at least one external data source;

verify the person using the at least external one data source and the at least one of the biographical information or the other information;

receive biometric data for the person electronically collected using a biometric capture device of the electronic device; and

upon confirming a correspondence between the stored biometric data and the biometric data, perform an action.

2. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the action includes initiating processing of a payment.

3. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the other information corresponds to data from a payment card.

4. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor instructs storing payment information for the person associated with the stored biometric data.

5. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device includes a display.

6. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the stored biometric data corresponds to at least a portion of a hand of the person.

7. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor instructs billing of the person using stored payment information for the person.

8. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the biographical information comprises a phone number.

9. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein:

the electronic device is a first electronic device; and

the at least one processor receives the biometric data from a second electronic device.

10. The biometric identification system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor receives payment information for the person.

11. A method, comprising:

receiving biographical information regarding a person from a first input component of an electronic device;

receiving other information from a second input component of the electronic device that reads a physical item associated with the person;

determining the person with which to associate stored biometric data using at least one of the biographical information or the other information to access data stored in at least one external data source;

verifying the person using the at least one data source and the at least one of the biographical information or the other information;

receiving biometric data for the person electronically collected using a biometric capture device; and

upon confirming a correspondence between the stored biometric data and the biometric data, perform an action.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein:

the receiving the biometric data for the person electronically collected using the biometric capture device comprises receiving the biometric data for the person electronically collected using the biometric capture device of a first electronic device; and

the method further comprises receiving the second biometric data from a second electronic device.

13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising instructing storing payment information for the person associated with the stored biometric data.

14. The method of claim 11 , further comprising receiving payment information for the person.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the receiving other information from the second input component of the electronic device that reads the physical item associated with the person comprises receiving other information from the second input component of the electronic device that reads at least one payment card.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the receiving the biometric data for the person comprises receiving the biometric data corresponding to at least a portion of a hand of the person.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the action includes instructing initiation of processing of a payment.

18. The method of claim 11 , further comprising displaying output on a display of the electronic device.

19. The method of claim 11 , further comprising instructing billing of the person using stored payment information for the person.

20. The method of claim 11 , wherein the receiving the biographical information regarding the person comprises receiving a phone number.
