Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for expediting workflow construction and revision are disclosed. A canvas is displayed for containing workflow blocks of a workflow, enabling generation of the workflow blocks associated with data sources, and enabling, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks. A global variable repository linked to the workflow is constructed that includes, for each of a plurality of global variables, a linkage field. The operations also include enabling construction of the workflow using the workflow blocks with the plurality of global variables defined in the global variable repository, wherein during a construction process, linkage fields are permitted to remain empty. Following construction of the workflow, data is received to fill the at least some empty linkage fields, where the empty linkage fields are mapped to the at least one of the plurality of data sources.

Claims (45)

1. A non-transitory computer-readable medium containing instructions that when executed by at least one processor cause the at least one processor to perform operations in conjunction with a graphical workflow builder for expediting workflow construction and revision, the operations comprising:

displaying, utilizing a graphical user interface (GUI) on a user device, a canvas for containing workflow blocks of a workflow, wherein the workflow blocks represent tasks for execution within the workflow;

providing in the GUI, tools enabling generation of the workflow blocks wherein at least some of the workflow blocks are configured to access least one of a plurality of data sources;

enabling, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks;

constructing a global variable repository linked to the workflow, wherein the global variable repository includes, for each of a plurality of global variables, a linkage field;

enabling, on the displayed canvas, the construction of the workflow using the workflow blocks with the plurality of global variables defined in the global variable repository, wherein during a construction process, at least some of the linkage fields are permitted to remain empty; and

following construction of the workflow, receiving data to fill the at least some empty linkage fields, where the at least some empty linkage fields are mapped to the at least one of the plurality of data sources.

2. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include enabling editing of a name of a global variable in the workflow.

3. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 2 , wherein editing of a name of one of the plurality of global variables in the workflow causes a change in the name of the one of the plurality of global variables throughout the workflow.

4. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 2 , wherein editing of a name of one of the plurality of global variables in the workflow is caused by a data source linked via the linkage field of one of the plurality of global variables.

5. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein enabling generation of workflow blocks includes enabling creation of new blocks.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein proving on the GUI tools includes displaying on the canvas a library of template workflow blocks, and enabling generation of workflow blocks includes enabling selection of workflow blocks from the library of template workflow blocks.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 6 , wherein enabling selection of the workflow blocks from the library of template workflow blocks includes enabling dragging of the workflow blocks from the displayed library of template workflow blocks to the canvas.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of global variables included in the global variable repository is inherent to the workflow blocks generated.

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the at least some of the linkage fields that are permitted to remain empty includes all of the linkage fields.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein each global variable is created as either a custom type or a primitive type.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein at least one first global variable assigned to at least one-first workflow block is dependent on at least one second global variable assigned to at least one second workflow block at an upstream position with respect to a position of the at least one-first workflow block.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the operations further include, when the at least one second global variable is modified, checking that the linkage field of the at least one first global variable is not broken.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein each of the workflow blocks of the workflow is configured to receive at least one trigger and to implement at least one action.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein an assigned global variable is used by the at least one trigger, the at least one action, or in a combination thereof.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include, following construction of the specific workflow, issuing an alert identifying at least some of the plurality of global variables containing an empty linkage field.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the global variable repository further includes for each of the plurality of global variables at least one of a name field, a type field, a value field, or a combination thereof.

17. A method for expediting workflow construction and revision in conjunction with a graphical workflow builder, the method comprising:

displaying, utilizing a graphical user interface (GUI) on a user device, a canvas for containing workflow blocks of a workflow, wherein the workflow blocks represent tasks for execution within the workflow;

providing on the GUI tools enabling generation of the workflow blocks wherein at least some of the workflow blocks are configured to access least one of a plurality of data sources;

enabling, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks;

constructing a global variable repository linked to the workflow, wherein the global variable repository includes, for each of a plurality of global variables, a linkage field;

enabling, on the displayed canvas, construction of the workflow using the workflow blocks with the plurality of global variables defined in the global variable repository, wherein during a construction process, at least some of the linkage fields are permitted to remain empty; and

following construction of the workflow, receiving data to fill the at least some empty linkage fields, where the at least some empty linkage fields are mapped to the at least one of the plurality of data sources.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising enabling editing of a name of a global variable in the workflow.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein editing of a name of one of the plurality of global variables in the workflow causes a change in the name of the one of the plurality of global variables throughout the workflow.

20. A system for expediting workflow construction and revision, the system comprising:

at least one processor adapted to:

display, utilizing a graphical user interface (GUI) on a user device, a canvas for containing workflow blocks of a workflow, wherein the workflow blocks represent tasks for execution within the workflow;

provide on the GUI tools enabling generation of the workflow blocks wherein at least some of the workflow blocks are configured to access at least one of a plurality of data sources;

enable, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks;

construct a global variable repository linked to the workflow, wherein the global variable repository includes, for each of a plurality of global variables, a linkage field;

enable, on the displayed canvas, the construction of the workflow using the workflow blocks with the plurality of global variables defined in the global variable repository, wherein during a construction process, at least some of the linkage fields are permitted to remain empty; and

following construction of the workflow, receive data to fill the at least some empty linkage fields, where the at least some empty linkage fields are mapped to the at least one of the plurality of data sources.

21. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein at least one linkage field of at least one of the plurality of global variables is configured to link the at least one of the plurality of global variables to results generated by at least one of the workflow blocks.

22. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein at least one linkage field of at least one of the plurality of global variables is configured to link the at least one of the plurality of global variables to at least one SaaS platform element.

23. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein at least one linkage field of at least one of the plurality of global variables is configured to link the at least one of the plurality of global variables to a resource inaccessible to a user of the user device.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein enabling, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks includes automatically creating a global variable during the creation of a workflow block and assigning the global variable to the workflow block.

The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein enabling, during generation of the workflow blocks, assignment of global variables to the workflow blocks includes receiving from the user an input indicative of a creation of a global variable during the creation of a workflow block and assigning the global variable to the workflow block.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise displaying on the canvas the global variable repository.
