Forced drying of printed ink
View Patent ↗A printer has a fluid outlet that outputs a drying fluid over at least one surface of print media after printing to dry material printed onto the media.
1. A pagewidth inkjet printer including:
a printing mechanism that prints one or more materials onto at least one surface of print media;
a conveyor that conveys the print media from the printing mechanism along a longitudinal media path, the media path extending from the printing mechanism to an exit of the printer;
an elongate drying fluid duct comprising a plurality of fluid outlets for outputting drying fluid over said at least one surface of said print media that has been printed on by said printing mechanism,
wherein said duct is coextensive with said media path such that drying fluid from said plurality of fluid outlets moves transversely across the print media relative to the longitudinal path of the print media.
2. The printer of claim 1 wherein the print media is continuous.
3. The printer of claim 1 wherein the drying fluid is air.
4. The printer of claim 1 including an enclosure substantially enclosing the path, said at least one fluid outlet being located within the enclosure.
5. The printer of claim 4 including at least one vent in the enclosure through which drying fluid may escape the enclosure.
6. The printer of claim 1 wherein the printing mechanism includes at least one stationary inkjet printhead assembly extending across substantially the width of the print media.
7. The printer of claim 1 whereby the printing mechanism includes at least one stationary inkjet printhead assembly extending across substantially the width of each opposed surface of the print media.
8. The printer of claim 1 wherein the printing mechanism includes at least one stationary inkjet printhead assembly extending across substantially the width of the print media.
9. The printer of claim 1 whereby the printing mechanism includes at least one stationary inkjet printhead assembly extending across substantially the width of each opposed surface of the print media.
