Replaceable pagewidth printhead cartridge

1. A cartridge unit for an inkjet printer comprising:

a body portion having one or more ink storage compartments; and

a pagewidth printhead assembly mountable to said body and configured to receive ink from the one or more compartments and to distribute the ink along a length of the printhead assembly,

wherein the printhead assembly comprises one or more integrated circuits which extend substantially the length thereof so as to have joins therebetween, each integrated circuit having a plurality of nozzles formed thereon, each of the nozzles being arranged in use to receive ink from the one or more ink delivery channels and deliver the ink into passing print media, and

wherein the nozzles of each of the rows adjacent one end of the integrated circuits are vertically displaced with respect to the remainder of the nozzles to provide a degree of nozzle overlap at the join and to maintain nozzle pitch across the join.

2. A cartridge unit according to claim 1 , wherein the vertically displaced nozzles are arranged in a triangular configuration.

3. A cartridge unit according to claim 1 , wherein the vertically displaced nozzles are arranged in a trapezoidal configuration.

4. A cartridge unit according to claim 1 , wherein the pagewidth printhead assembly includes a plurality of connectors which project from a surface thereof and are received by the body portion to secure the printhead assembly thereto.

A cartridge unit according to claim 4 , wherein the body portion has one or more ink outlets formed along a surface thereof, with each of the ink outlets being associated with one of the ink storage compartments and configured to receive an associated ink inlet of the pagewidth printhead assembly when the pagewidth printhead assembly is attached thereto.

6. A cartridge unit according to claim 5 , wherein the ink inlets are hollow tubes which project from the pagewidth printhead assembly and are received within the ink outlets of the body portion to facilitate delivery of ink to the printhead assembly.

7. A cartridge unit according to claim 6 , wherein the printhead assembly comprises one or more ink delivery channels which extend along a length thereof, each of the ink delivery channels being configured to receive ink from only one of the ink inlets.

8. A cartridge unit according to claim 7 , wherein an ink distribution member distributes the ink from the one or more ink delivery channels to the nozzles of the integrated circuits.

9. A cartridge unit according to claim 8 , wherein the integrated circuits are secured to a surface of the ink distribution member.

10. A cartridge unit according to claim 9 , wherein the integrated circuits are secured to the surface of the ink distribution member in an end-to-end arrangement across a length of the ink distribution member.

11. A cartridge unit according to claim 10 , wherein each end of the integrated circuits are shaped to have a straight edge to facilitate a rectangular join between neighbouring integrated circuits.

12. A cartridge unit according to claim 10 , wherein a distance of separation between neighbouring integrated circuits is less than 15 microns.

13. A cartridge unit according to claim 10 , wherein each end of the integrated circuits are shaped to have an angled edge to facilitate a sloping join between neighbouring integrated circuits.

14. A cartridge unit according to claim 13 , wherein neighbouring integrated circuits are vertically offset from each other along the length of the ink distribution member.

15. A cartridge unit according to claim 14 , wherein ends of the rows of nozzles follow the angled edge of the integrated circuits.

16. A cartridge unit according to claim 13 , wherein the angled edge has an angle of 45°.

17. A cartridge unit according to claim 16 , wherein the angled edge has a sawtooth profile.
