Abstract

A SAN manager acquires configuration information from devices constituting a SAN and produces a corresponding relationship between a host computer and a virtual volume (virtual volume mapping) and a corresponding relationship between the host computer and a real volume (real volume mapping). Based on those pieces of mapping information, the SAN manager outputs a corresponding relationship between virtual and real volumes. Meanwhile, the failure notification messages received from the in-SAN devices are construed to detect and output an influence of the failure upon the access to a real or virtual volume. Furthermore, when receiving a plurality of failure notifications from the devices connected to the SAN, the plurality of failure notifications are outputted with an association based on the corresponding relationship between real and virtual volumes.

Claims (35)

1. A computer, comprising:

a processor; and

an interface coupled to a plurality of storage systems and a switch,

wherein each of the plurality of storage systems includes a controller and at least one logical volume,

wherein the switch couples to the plurality of storage systems and a host computer, and maps at least one of a plurality of logical volumes of the plurality of storage systems to at least one virtual volume to provide an access to the at least one virtual volume with the host computer,

wherein the processor receives logical volume information from the plurality of storage systems via the interface,

wherein the processor receives virtual volume information from the switch via the interface,

wherein the logical volume information includes configuration information and identifying information of the plurality of logical volumes of the plurality of storage systems,

wherein the virtual volume information indicates a mapping between the at least one virtual volume and the at least one logical volume mapped to the virtual volume by the switch, and

wherein based on the logical volume information and the virtual volume information, the processor outputs information showing whether each of the plurality of logical volumes is mapped to the at least one virtual volume and relation information between the at least one virtual volume and the at least one of the plurality of logical volumes mapped to the at least one virtual volume.

2. A computer according to claim 1 ,

wherein the virtual volume information is configured by the switch.

3. A computer according to claim 1 ,

wherein the processor further receives second information including information of the at least one virtual volumes used by the host computer from the host computers, and

wherein based on the logical volume information, the virtual volume information, and the second information, the processor outputs data including relationship information between the host computer and the at least one of the plurality of logical volumes which is mapped to the at least one virtual volumes.

4. A computer according to claim 3 ,

wherein the processor further outputs second data including relationship information between the host computer and the at least one virtual volume used by the host computer.

5. A computer according to claim 4 ,

wherein the processor receives a notification of failure from one of the plurality of storage systems via the interface, identifies a part of the plurality of logical volumes related to the one of the plurality of storage systems notifying the notification of the failure based on the logical volume information, a part of the at least one virtual volume related to the part of the plurality of logical volumes based on the virtual volume information, and a part of host computers coupled to the switch using the part of the at least one virtual volume based on the second information, and outputs information including the part of the plurality of logical volumes, the part of the host computers and the part of the at least one virtual volumes.

6. A method for outputting configuration of a system,

wherein the system includes:

a plurality of storage systems each having a controller and at least one logical volume; and

a switch coupled to the plurality of storage systems and a host computer and mapping at least one of a plurality of logical volumes of the plurality of storage systems to at least one virtual volume to provide an access to the at least one virtual volume with the host computer,

the method executed by a computer coupled to the plurality of storage systems and the switch comprising steps of:

receiving logical volume information from the plurality of storage systems, the logical volume information including configuration information and identifying information of a plurality of logical volumes of the plurality of storage systems;

receiving virtual volume information from the switch, the virtual volume information indicating a mapping between the at least one virtual volume and the at least one logical volume mapped to the virtual volume by the switch;

based on the logical volume information and the virtual volume information, outputting information showing whether each of the plurality of logical volumes is mapped to the at least one virtual volume and relation information between the at least one virtual volume and the at least one of the plurality of logical volumes mapped to the at least one virtual volume.

7. The method according to claim 6 ,

wherein the virtual volume information is configured by the switch.

8. The method according to claim 6 , further comprising the steps of receiving second information including information of the at least one virtual volume used by the host computer from the host computer, and

based on the logical volume information, the virtual volume information, and the second information, outputting data including relationship information between the host computer and the at least one of the plurality of logical volumes which is mapped to the at least one virtual volume.

9. The method according to claim 6 , further comprising the step of:

outputting second data including relationship information between the host computer and the at least one virtual volume used by the host computer.

10. The method according to claim 9 , further comprising the steps of:

receiving a notification of failure from one of the plurality of storage systems via the interface, identifying a part of the plurality of logical volumes related to the one of the plurality of storage systems notifying the notification of the failure based on the logical volume information, a part of the at least one virtual volume related to the part of the plurality of logical volumes based on the virtual volume information, and a part of host computers coupled to the switch using the part of the at least one virtual volume based on the second information, and outputting information including the part of the plurality of logical volumes, the part of the host computers and the part of the at least one virtual volume.
