Abstract

The carton of this invention is capable of carrying the plurality of containers stacked upon their ends in two tiers with a unique dispenser that permits the dispensing of containers on their sides. The dispenser is formed in a top side wall and extends into the end wall with most of the end wall being torn open but leaving a portion near the bottom side wall to prevent the bottom layer of containers from rolling out. Angled projections in the dispensing end of the carton near the top panel and bottom panel prevent the top layer of containers from rolling out. A divider may be inserted between the two tiers of containers to facilitate loading the carton and preventing the containers from accidentally rolling out when the dispenser is open.

Claims (17)

1. A method of dispensing containers, the method comprising:

a. providing a carton having a top panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel and a second side panel, a closed end, and an exiting end, the carton enclosing containers in at least two tiers, each container having ends and a side;

b. resting the carton on the first side panel to arrange the containers on their side in at least two stacks, each stack corresponding to a tier and comprising a plurality of layers of said containers; and

c. forming an opening by removing a portion of the second side panel adjacent the exiting end and a portion of the exiting end adjacent the second side panel from the carton, the opening permitting removal of said containers from the stacks and preventing the containers from rolling out of the carton.

2. The method of claim 1 , including providing a handle in the top panel.

3. The method of claim 1 , including providing a divider between the at least two tiers.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein formation of the opening includes separating along tear lines in the carton.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein formation of the opening is initiated at the second side panel.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein a pull tab is provided on the second side panel.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the opening is formed in the exiting end and includes a portion that extends across the exiting end from the top panel to the bottom panel.

8. The method of claim 1 , including removing the containers individually from each stack.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the containers in each tier are disposed in a 3 by 4 configuration.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the portion of the second side panel adjacent the exiting end and the portion of the exiting end adjacent the second side panel are removed as a unit.

11. A method of dispensing comprising:

providing a carton having a top panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel, and a second side panel, and at least one end flap; the carton enclosing a plurality of containers including a first container; the carton having a first end and a second end; the first container having a first container end and a second container end;

orienting the carton on the first side panel with at least the first container end being perpendicular to the first side panel; and

forming an opening by separating a portion of the carton from a remainder of the carton; the portion including a section of the second side panel and a section of the first end; the remainder preventing the containers from rolling out of the carton and the opening permitting removal of the containers.
