Abstract

A cutting platform for use with an agricultural harvesting machine includes a plurality of platform sections positioned in end-to-end juxtaposed relation to each other. At least one platform section includes a frame, a plurality of float arms movably coupled with the frame, an endless belt carried by the plurality of float arms, and a cutterbar assembly carried by the plurality of float arms and movable in a localized manner in upwards and downwards directions.

Claims (27)

1. An agricultural harvesting machine, comprising:

a feeder housing; and

a cutting platform attached to said feeder housing, said cutting platform including a plurality of platform sections, each said platform section including a frame, a plurality of float arms movably coupled with said frame, an endless belt carried by said plurality of float arms, and a cutterbar assembly carried by said plurality of float arms and movable in a localized manner across said cutting platform in upwards and downwards directions.

2. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 1 , wherein said cutterbar assembly includes a flexible substrate and a plurality of knife guards carried by said flexible substrate.

3. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 2 , wherein each said platform section includes a plurality of crop ramps extending from said cutterbar assembly, said plurality of crop ramps being movable relative to each other.

4. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 1 , wherein each said float arm is pivotally coupled with said corresponding frame.

5. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 4 , wherein said plurality of float arms include a pair of outboard float arms positioned at opposite ends of said respective platform section, said endless belt partially wrapping and reversing travel directions around each said outboard float arm.

6. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 5 , wherein each said outboard float arm includes a roller, said endless belt partially wrapping said roller.

7. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 1 , wherein each adjacent pair of said platform sections is pivotally coupled together about a corresponding axis.

8. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 1 , wherein said plurality of platform sections comprises three platform sections.

9. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 1 , wherein each said platform section has a longitudinal extension which is generally parallel to said corresponding cutterbar assembly, and wherein each of said plurality of float arms are pivotably coupled with said frame about a pivot axis which is generally parallel to said longitudinal extension of said corresponding platform section.

10. A cutting platform for use with an agricultural harvesting machine, comprising:

a plurality of platform sections positioned in end-to-end juxtaposed relation to each other, each said platform section including a frame, a plurality of float arms movably coupled with said frame, an endless belt carried by said plurality of float arms, and a cutterbar assembly carried by said plurality of float arms and movable in a localized manner across said cutting platform in upwards and downwards directions.

11. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein said cutterbar assembly includes a flexible substrate and a plurality of knife guards carried by said flexible substrate.

12. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein each said float arm is pivotally coupled with said corresponding frame.

13. The cutting platform of claim 12 , wherein said plurality of float arms include a pair of outboard float arms positioned at opposite ends of said respective platform section, said endless belt partially wrapping and reversing travel directions around each said outboard float arm.

14. The cutting platform of claim 13 , wherein each said outboard float arm includes a roller, said endless belt partially wrapping said roller.

15. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein each adjacent pair of said platform sections is pivotally coupled together about a corresponding axis.

16. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein said plurality of platform sections comprises three platform sections.

17. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein said cutterbar assembly includes a flexible substrate and a plurality of knife guards carried by said flexible substrate.

18. The cutting platform of claim 10 , wherein each said float arm is pivotally coupled with said corresponding frame.

19. The cutting platform of claim 12 , wherein said plurality of float arms include a pair of outboard float arms positioned at opposite ends of said respective platform section, said endless belt partially wrapping and reversing travel directions around each said outboard float arm.

20. The cutting platform of claim 13 , wherein each said outboard float arm includes a roller, said endless belt partially wrapping said roller.

21. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 10 , wherein each said platform section has a longitudinal extension which is generally parallel to said corresponding cutterbar assembly, and wherein each of said plurality of float arms are pivotably coupled with said frame about a pivot axis which is generally parallel to said longitudinal extension of said corresponding platform section.

22. A cutting platform for use with an agricultural harvesting machine, comprising:

at least one platform section, each said platform section including a frame, a plurality of float arms movably coupled with said frame, an endless belt carried by said plurality of float arms, and a cutterbar assembly carried by said plurality of float arms, the endless belt and the cutterbar assembly being movable in a localized manner across said cutting platform in upwards and downwards directions.

23. The agricultural harvesting machine of claim 22 , wherein each said platform section has a longitudinal extension which is generally parallel to said corresponding cutterbar assembly, and wherein each of said plurality of float arms are pivotably coupled with said frame about a pivot axis which is generally parallel to said longitudinal extension of said corresponding platform section.
