Abstract

An apparatus for fabricating a flat panel display device includes a substrate on which a picture display section is formed and a stage on which the substrate is loaded. A dispenser applies a sealant along an outer line of the picture display section in the substrate. A light detector emits light toward the sealant and detects the amount of reflected light in real-time. A controller detects broken lines in the sealant in accordance with a signal supplied from the light detector and controls the dispenser so as to re-apply the sealant to spaces in the broken line in which the sealant is not present.

Claims (38)

1. An apparatus for fabricating a display device, the apparatus comprising:

a rectangular substrate that has a section;

a stage on which the rectangular substrate is loaded;

a single dispenser that moves along an outline of the section on the rectangular substrate and from which a sealant is applied to the rectangular substrate using a jet nozzle ejecting the sealant to the rectangular substrate;

a light detector that emits light toward the rectangular substrate and detects an amount of light reflected toward the detector in real-times;

a controller that detects a position on the rectangular substrate that is to be covered with sealant but does not have the sealant, in accordance with a signal supplied from the light detector, and that generates a control signal based on the signal supplied from the light detector;

a driver that moves the dispenser horizontally and vertically under control of the controller; and

a guide line that guides the movement of the driver; and

a supplier that supplies the sealant to the dispenser,

wherein the single dispenser moves back to the position and reapplies the sealant to the rectangular substrate at the position along a trace of the sealant on the rectangular substrate based on the control signal,

wherein the light detector includes a light-emitter emitting the light to the sealant applied to the rectangular substrate, and a light-receiver receiving light reflected from the rectangular substrate,

wherein the jet nozzle is positioned between the light-emitter and a light-receiver.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the controller includes a broken line detector that detects the position on the rectangular substrate that is missing the sealant in accordance with the signal supplied form the light detector and generates a position information signal for the position.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the controller controls the driver to move the single dispenser to the position on the rectangular substrate corresponding to the position information signal and the controller controls the single dispenser to reapply the sealant to the position.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the controller controls the single dispenser to reapply to the position detected by the light detector in real-time after completing a first pass of applying of the sealant to the rectangular substrate.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the light-emitter is installed at one side in a lower end of the single dispenser and separated from the jet nozzle by a first distance so as to face to the rectangular substrate.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the light-receiver is installed at an opposite side to the one side in the lower end of the single dispenser and separated from the jet nozzle by a second distance.

7. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the picture display section comprises a liquid crystal display device, a field emission display device, a plasma display panel or an electro-luminescence display device.

8. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the rectangular substrate comprises an upper rectangular substrate or a lower rectangular substrate of the flat panel display device.

9. An apparatus comprising:

a stage of sufficient size to receive a rectangular substrate of a display device;

a single dispenser from which a sealant is dispensed toward the stage using a jet nozzle ejecting the sealant to the rectangular substrate;

a source that is installed at one side in a lower end of the single dispenser and emits energy at an oblique angle toward the stage;

a detector that is installed at an opposite side to the one side in the lower end of the single dispenser and detects the energy from the source that has been reflected toward the detector;

a controller that controls the single dispenser such that the dispenser traces a path while dispensing, detects a missing position along the path that does not contain the sealant in accordance with a signal supplied from the detector; and

a driver that moves the dispenser along and perpendicular to a plane parallel with a surface of the stage under control of the controller;

a guide line that guides the movement of the driver; and

a supplier that supplies the sealant to the dispenser,

wherein the single dispenser is reached to the missing position and reapplies the sealant to the missing position along a trace of the sealant on the rectangular substrate based on a control signal transmitted from the controller.

10. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the controller includes a broken line detector that detects the missing position in accordance with the signal supplied from the light detector and generates a position information signal in accordance with the missing position.

11. The apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the controller controls the driver to move the dispenser to the missing position on the rectangular substrate corresponding to the position information signal and the controller controls the dispenser to supply the sealant to the missing position.

12. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the dispenser applies the sealant to the missing position detected by the light detector only after the dispenser has completed a predetermined pattern.

13. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the dispenser comprises a nozzle, from which the sealant is ejected, on a bottom of the dispenser and the source and detector are disposed on the bottom.

14. The apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the source and detector are disposed on opposite sides of the nozzle.

15. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the detector detects the energy from the source that has been reflected toward the detector in real-time.

16. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the controller controls the dispenser such that the dispenser automatically moves back to the missing position and applies the sealant to the missing position.

17. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the controller detects the missing position in accordance with the signal supplied from the detector, generates a position information signal for the missing position, controls the driver to move the dispenser to the missing position on the rectangular substrate corresponding to the position information signal, and controls the dispenser to supply the sealant to the missing position.

18. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the controller controls the dispenser such that the dispenser applies the sealant to the missing position only after the dispenser has completed a predetermined pattern.
