Abstract

One embodiment discloses a computerized method of facilitating cardiac intervention, comprising inputting patient data, creating a computerized interactive model of a heart based on the patient data, wherein the model comprises features, simulating at least one proposed cardiac intervention treatment by adding or deleting features to the model, and determining the effects of the proposed cardiac simulation upon the entire model. Simulations may be repeated to allow the user to determine an optimal cardiac intervention. Additionally, a template may be created from the model to use as a guide during the cardiac intervention.

Claims (45)

1. A method of assessing transmurality of scarring of heart tissue from a human heart, comprising:

providing at least one image of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system;

creating endocardial and epicardial left ventricle wall boundaries from at least one of the images of heart tissue using the computer system;

automatically dividing at least a portion of the left ventricle wall defined by the created endocardial and epicardial left ventricle wall boundaries into at least two sections;

automatically assessing a relative contrast between at least two of the sections using the computer system; and

automatically assessing a presence of scar tissue in one or more of the sections based on contrast between at least two of the sections using the computer system.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically assessing an extent of scar tissue in the heart tissue.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically assessing a degree of the transmurality of the heart tissue.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the computer system uses the contrast of at least one of the sections to assess scarring in or proximate to at least one of the sections.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising displaying the at least three-dimensional image.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue, with contrast of at least one of the two sections on the image.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating at least a four-dimensional image of the heart tissue.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating at least a four-dimensional image of the heart tissue, wherein one of the dimensions comprises time.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating a report comprising at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue, wherein the image is divided into sections based on the contrast of the sections.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising creating a report comprising an image of the heart tissue, wherein the image is divided into sections based on the contrast of the sections.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising automatically assessing a thickness of a portion of the left ventricle wall.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing at least two images of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system, wherein at least two of the images are acquired at different time intervals.

14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

providing at least two images of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system, wherein at least two of the images are acquired at different time intervals; and

automatically assessing a thickness of a portion of the left ventricle wall over time.

15. A method of assessing transmurality of scarring of heart tissue from a human heart, comprising:

providing at least one image of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system;

creating endocardial and epicardial left ventricle wall boundaries from at least one of the images of heart tissue using the computer system;

automatically dividing at least a portion of the left ventricle wall defined by the created endocardial and epicardial left ventricle wall boundaries into at least two sections;

automatically assessing a relative contrast between at least two of the sections using the computer system;

automatically assessing a presence of scar tissue in one or more of the sections based on contrast between at least two of the sections using the computer system;

automatically assessing a thickness of scar tissue in a portion of the left ventricle wall;

automatically assessing a thickness of the portion of the left ventricle wall; and

automatically assessing a degree of the transmurality of the heart tissue using a ratio of the thickness of scar tissue in the portion of the left ventricle wall to the thickness of the portion of the left ventricle wall.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising automatically assessing an extent of scar tissue in the heart tissue.

17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising automatically assessing a degree of the transmurality of the heart tissue.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the computer system uses the contrast of at least one of the sections to assess scarring in or proximate to at least one of the sections.

19. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising displaying the at least three-dimensional image.

21. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue, with contrast of at least one of the two sections on the image.

22. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating at least a four-dimensional image of the heart tissue.

23. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating at least a four-dimensional image of the heart tissue, wherein one of the dimensions comprises time.

24. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating a report comprising at least a three-dimensional image of the heart tissue, wherein the image is divided into sections based on the contrast of the sections.

25. The method of claim 15 , further comprising creating a report comprising an image of the heart tissue, wherein the image is divided into sections based on the contrast of the sections.

26. The method of claim 15 , further comprising automatically assessing a thickness of a portion of the left ventricle wall.

27. The method of claim 15 , further comprising providing at least two images of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system, wherein at least two of the images are acquired at different time intervals.

28. The method of claim 15 , further comprising:

providing at least two images of heart tissue from the heart to a computer system, wherein at least two of the images are acquired at different time intervals; and

automatically assessing a thickness of a portion of the left ventricle wall over time.
