Anastomosis occlusion device
An anastomosis occlusion device having a low-profile shaft assembly configured for insertion into the lumen of a vessel. The device includes an expandable region at the shaft assembly distal end with a sealing membrane that spans the expandable region, and a corresponding clamping member moveable toward the expandable region. Once inserted into the vessel lumen the expandable region is deployed from a first low-profile position into a second expanded position, and positioned at the target site of the anastomosis. Movement of the distal end of the clamping member, which remains located outside the vessel, against the expanded region creates a seal at the target site.
1. A method of creating a temporary seal in a blood vessel for vascular anastomosis comprising the steps of:
providing a low profile shaft assembly having an expandable region and a sealing membrane spanning said expandable region;
inserting said assembly into a blood vessel through an insertion site at a first location on a blood vessel wall, and positioning the expandable region of the shaft assembly at a target sealing site on the blood vessel wall remote from the insertion site at a second location along the length of the blood vessel;
deploying said expandable region from a first low-profile position to a second expanded position; and
engaging the blood vessel wall at the target sealing site with the expandable region in its second expanded position to create a temporary seal at the target site without interrupting the flow of blood through the blood vessel, the sealed area being larger than the insertion site; and
performing an anastomosis procedure at the target sealing site.
2. A method of creating a temporary seal for vascular anastomosis at a target anastomosis site in a blood vessel comprising the steps of:
providing a low profile shaft assembly having an expandable region and a sealing membrane spanning said expandable region, said expandable region being deployable from a first low-profile position to a second expanded position and configured to be removably secured to a blood vessel wall;
inserting said assembly into a blood vessel at a first location and positioning the expandable region at the target anastomosis site on the blood vessel wall, which is at a second location along the length of the blood vessel remote from the first location;
deploying said expandable region from said first low-profile position to said second expanded position; and
engaging the inner wall of the blood vessel at the target anastomosis site with the expandable region in its second expanded position to create a temporary seal at the target anastomosis site without interrupting the flow of blood through the blood vessel; and
performing an anastomosis procedure at the target anastomosis site.
3. A method of creating a temporary seal for vascular anastomosis at a target anastomosis site in a blood vessel comprising the steps of:
providing a sealing member deployable from a first low-profile position to a second expanded position, said sealing member configured to be removably secured to a blood vessel wall;
inserting said sealing member into a blood vessel at a first location and deploying said sealing member from said first low-profile position to said second expanded position; and
engaging the blood vessel wall at a desired location with the sealing member in its second expanded position to create a temporary seal without interrupting the flow of blood through the blood vessel; and
performing an anastomosis procedure, at the desired location
wherein the desired location is remote from the first location along the length the blood vessel.
4. The method of claim 3 wherein said sealing member further comprises a low profile shaft assembly having an expandable region and a sealing membrane spanning said expandable region.
