Abstract

A system in accordance with embodiments of the present invention includes a cannula interconnected to a collection vessel by a flexible conduit. The collection vessel can comprise one or more syringe bodies. The syringe bodies are provided with tissue removed from a body using the cannula by a tissue transfer channel. As a result, multiple syringe bodies can be loaded with tissue, without requiring manual handling of that tissue. Alternatively or in addition, a collection bag can be provided for receiving tissue removed from a body using a cannula. The tissue collection bag can include a filter. A collection vessel comprising a collection bag can be used in combination with a collection vessel comprising one or more syringe bodies.

Claims (23)

1. A device for collecting tissue, comprising:

a canister;

a collection vessel, wherein the collection vessel is located within an interior volume of the canister, wherein the collection vessel includes a plurality of syringe bodies;

an inlet to the collection vessel;

a first vacuum outlet in communication with an interior of the collection vessel;

a transfer plate, wherein a plurality of syringe mounts are formed in the transfer plate;

a transfer plate lid, sealed to the transfer plate, wherein the transfer plate and the transfer plate lid cooperate to form a tissue transfer channel, wherein the tissue transfer channel is in communication with the plurality of syringe mounts, wherein the transfer plate and the transfer plate lid are interconnected to the canister and to the collection vessel, and wherein each of the plurality of syringe mounts receives a syringe body included in the plurality of syringe bodies.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of syringe bodies are capped, wherein the plurality of syringe bodies form a seal at the plurality of syringe mounts, wherein the transfer plate lid is sealed to the syringe plate along at least a perimeter of an area including the tissue transfer channel and openings to the plurality of syringe bodies, wherein a vacuum tight tissue collection volume is formed between the inlet to the collection vessel and the first vacuum outlet.

3. The device of claim 2 , further comprising:

a second vacuum outlet in communication with the interior volume of the canister, wherein a vacuum chamber is formed in the interior volume of the collection canister and about an exterior of the plurality of syringe bodies.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the inlet to the collection vessel is at a first end of the tissue transfer channel,

wherein communication between the inlet to the collection vessel and the interior of the collection vessel is at least partially provided by the tissue transfer channel,

wherein the first vacuum outlet is at a second end of the tissue transfer channel, and

wherein the communication between the first vacuum outlet and the interior of the collection vessel is at least partially provided by the tissue transfer channel.

5. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a filter, wherein the filter includes holes formed in a body of the collection vessel.

6. The device of claim 3 , wherein the first vacuum outlet and the second vacuum outlet are interconnected to a common vacuum source.

7. The device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a second vacuum outlet in communication with the interior volume of the canister, wherein a vacuum chamber is formed in the interior volume of the canister.

8. The device of claim 7 , further comprising:

a filter, wherein the filter includes holes formed in the plurality of syringe bodies.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the first vacuum outlet and the second vacuum outlet are interconnected to a common vacuum source.

10. The device of claim 7 , wherein the first vacuum outlet and the second vacuum outlet are interconnected to a common vacuum source.
