Abstract

A printhead assembly is provided for an inkjet printer. The printhead assembly includes an elongate ink distribution structure defining a plurality of parallel ink ducts extending along the ink distribution structure. A laminated stack is received within the ink distribution structure and defines a plurality of ink passages in fluid communication with respective ink ducts. One or more printhead integrated circuits (ICs) are received within the laminated stack, and are in fluid communication with the ink passages so that the printhead ICs can print ink provided from the ink distribution structure and laminated stack.

Claims (11)

1. A printhead assembly for an inkjet printer, the printhead assembly comprising:

an elongate ink distribution structure defining a plurality of parallel ink ducts extending along the ink distribution structure;

a laminated stack received within the ink distribution structure and defining a plurality of ink passages in fluid communication with respective ink ducts; and

one or more printhead integrated circuits (ICs) received within the laminated stack, and in fluid communication with the ink passages so that the printhead ICs can print ink provided from the ink distribution structure and laminated stack.

2. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the laminated stack is wholly located within the ink distribution structure and the printhead ICs are wholly located within the laminated stack.

3. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising one or more nozzle guards received within the laminated stack to be in register with respective printhead ICs, and defining apertures aligned with ink ejecting nozzles of the IC's so that ink to be printed passes through the apertures.

4. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 3 , further comprising a pressurized air supply configured to provide pressurised air to a space between the each nozzle guard and corresponding printhead IC so that the air passes through the apertures and impedes the build-up of any contaminants in the apertures.

5. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising:

a printed circuit board (PCB) having mounted thereon various electronic components to control the operation of the printhead IC; and

one or more tape automated bond (TAB) films extending away from respective printheads and around the ink distribution structure, and coupled to the PCB.

6. A printhead assembly as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the TAB films extend away from respective printheads between layers of the laminated stack.
