Abstract

A projection type image display apparatus of the invention has a lamp mounting mechanism, which has an aluminum lamp holder ( 166 ) intervening between the lamp ( 16 ) and the resin lamp holder ( 167 ) and has a section exposed out of the resin lamp holder ( 167 ). The lamp ( 16 ) is securely fixed in position on the aluminum lamp holder ( 166 ) by mounting the lamp ( 16 ) on the aluminum lamp holder ( 166 ) from above and then folding the top section ( 166 d ) towards the top end of the lamp ( 16 ). This lamp mounting mechanism can suppress the temperature of the resin lamp holder without providing a cooling fan with a large amount of power and suppress fan noise, thereby simultaneously enabling uprating of the power of the lamp and downsizing of the image display apparatus.

Claims (4)

1. A projection type image display apparatus adapted to project imaging light formed by modulating a beam of light received from a light source based on an image signal, and equipped with a lamp mounting mechanism to be mounted on a mounting section of said image display apparatus for mounting on a resin lamp holder a lamp that has a luminous tube and a reflector, said lamp mounting mechanism having an aluminum lamp holder that intervenes between said lamp and said resin lamp holder and partly exposes itself out of said resin lamp holder.

2. The projection type image display apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said aluminum lamp holder is integrally formed of a front section, side sections, a bottom section, and a top section in association with the front section, side sections, bottom section, and top section of the lamp, such that said top section is foldably formed at the upper edge of said front section and is folded towards said top end of said lamp after said lamp is mounted on said aluminum lamp holder from above to thereby securely fixing said lamp on said aluminum lamp holder.

3. The projection type image display apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein said aluminum lamp holder is provided on each side of said top section with a locking piece which is folded downward and has at the tip thereof an inwardly protruding locking pawl, while said resin lamp holder is provided in the opposite sides thereof with engagement holes to be engaged with said locking pawls.

4. The projection type image display apparatus according to any one of claims 1 through 3 , wherein said aluminum lamp holder is provided with a ventilatory net that has a plurality of small holes in association with each vent hole formed adjacent the front opening of the reflector.
