Abstract

An automated banking machine system operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The system is operative to read a financial card bearing account indicia with a card reader. A user is enabled to perform at least one banking operation responsive to account indicia read from the card. Such banking operations may include dispensing cash and accessing financial accounts. While a user operates the system to dispense cash or perform other banking operations, the system may further permit at least one portable wireless device to wirelessly access the system to conduct transactions.

Claims (29)

1. Non-transitory computer readable media bearing computer executable instructions operative to cause at least one processor in a portable wireless device in wireless communication with an automated banking machine that operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records, to cause the portable wireless device to carry out a method,

wherein the automated banking machine includes a card reader and a cash dispenser,

wherein the automated banking machine reads card data corresponding to financial accounts from user cards with the card reader,

wherein the method comprises:

a) through operation of the at least one processor, causing the portable wireless device to carry out a handshaking protocol wirelessly with the automated banking machine;

b) through operation of the at least one processor, receiving through an input device of the portable wireless device at least one input from a user, which at least one input is representative of selecting a withdrawal of an amount of cash through operation of the cash dispenser in the automated banking machine;

c) through operation of the at least one processor, causing a host banking system to authorize the withdrawal of the amount of cash at the automated banking machine with which the handshaking protocol was carried out in (a);

d) responsive to authorization of the withdrawal by the host banking system in (c), through operation of the at least one processor, causing an output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide a further input through an input device of the automated banking machine, which further input is operative to cause the automated banking machine to cause the cash dispenser to dispense the amount of cash.

2. The media according to claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions are included in a terminal client application, wherein during (a) through (d) at least a portion of the terminal client application operates in a virtual machine of the portable wireless device.

3. The media according to claim 1 , wherein the computer executable instructions are included in a terminal client application that is specifically programmed to carry out steps (a) through (d) for the specific type of operating system and hardware platform of the portable wireless device.

4. The media according to claim 1 , wherein in (a) the handshaking protocol provides the portable wireless device with initial information which is used by the at least one processor in the portable wireless device to carry out at least one of steps (b), (c), and (d).

5. The media according to claim 1 , wherein prior to (a) the handshaking protocol provides the portable wireless device with at least one software component which is used to perform at least one of steps (b), (c), and (d).

6. The media according to claim 1 , wherein (d) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to step adjacent the automated banking machine.

The media according to claim 1 , wherein (d) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide through the input device of the automated banking machine, at least one identification value for which the automated banking machine is operatively configured to use to verify an identity of at least one of the user, the portable wireless device, and another article associated with the user.

8. The media according to claim 7 , wherein (d) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide the further input using a biometric reader device of the automated banking machine.

9. The media according to claim 8 , wherein (d) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide the further input using a fingerprint scanner of the automated banking machine.

10. The media according to claim 7 , wherein (d) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide a number using the input device of the automated banking machine.

11. The media according to claim 1 , wherein (a) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the portable wireless device to carry out a handshaking protocol with the automated banking machine using a radio frequency wireless communication.

12. The media according to claim 11 , wherein (a) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the portable wireless device to carry out a handshaking protocol with the automated banking machine using a wireless Ethernet communication.

13. The media according to claim 11 , wherein (a) includes through operation of the at least one processor, causing the portable wireless device to carry out a handshaking protocol with the automated banking machine using a Bluetooth communication.

14. The media according to claim 1 , wherein (c) includes communicating a financial account number from the portable wireless device.

15. The media according to claim 14 , through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the portable wireless device to operate to prompt a user to provide through the input device of the portable wireless device, a personal identification number associated with the financial account communicated in (c).

16. The media according to claim 1 , wherein in (a) through (d) the portable wireless device is a mobile phone.

17. The media according to claim 16 , wherein prior to (b) through operation of the at least one processor, causing the output device of the mobile phone to display at least one user interface screen including a plurality of selectable options that are representative of transaction functions that may be performed with the automated banking machine.

18. At least one article of computer readable media bearing computer executable instructions operative to cause at least one processor in a mobile phone in wireless communication with a cash dispensing automated banking machine, to cause the mobile phone to carry out a method comprising:

a) through operation of the at least one processor, causing the mobile phone to wirelessly communicate with the automated banking machine;

b) through operation of the at least one processor, receiving through an input device of the mobile phone at least one input from a user, which at least one input is representative of an amount of cash;

c) through operation of the at least one processor, causing a host banking system to authorize a dispense of the amount of cash by the automated banking machine with which the mobile phone wirelessly communicated in (a); and

d) subsequent to authorization of the dispense of the amount of cash in (c), through operation of the at least one processor, causing an output device of the mobile phone to operate to prompt a user to provide a further input through an input device of the automated banking machine, which further input is operative to cause the automated banking machine to dispense the amount of cash.
