Abstract

Provided herein are suture clips that include a plug, a ring, and a shaft. Also provided is a catheter that includes a collet cage with a plurality of flexible collet fingers that engage a suture clip ring and a suture clip plug for assembly with a suture. The catheter is designed to hold and assemble the suture clip in a first position and release the suture clip and sever the suture ends proximal to the suture clip in a second position.

Claims (20)

1. A non-locking suture clip comprising:

a plug that is adapted to be implanted within a human body, the plug having a head and a shaft extending distally from the head, the shaft having a first diameter and the head having a shoulder with a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the shaft having a tapered distal end that tapers inwardly in a direction extending away from the head; and

a ring that is adapted to be implanted within the human body, the ring being continuous and having an inner annular wall defining a through aperture extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the ring, the through aperture having an aperture diameter greater than the first diameter and less than the second diameter, the shoulder adapted to contact an end of the ring to prevent insertion of the head into the through aperture, wherein an axial vacancy is located between the shaft and the annular wall when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture and the shoulder contacts the end of the ring, the axial vacancy adapted to receive a suture therein, the plug and the ring having a non-locking arrangement wherein the plug and the ring do not lock together when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture without the suture located in the axial vacancy.

2. The suture clip of claim 1 wherein the axial vacancy is at least about 0.003 inches.

3. The suture clip of claim 1 wherein the axial vacancy is no greater than about 0.003 inches.

4. The suture clip of claim 1 further comprising a suture situated between the plug shaft and the ring wherein the suture has a diameter greater than the axial vacancy.

5. The suture clip of claim 1 , wherein:

the ring comprises one or more ring suture apertures extending through the ring from the proximal end to the distal end of the ring, each ring suture aperture configured to receive a suture; and

the plug has one or more plug suture apertures extending through the plug from the proximal end to the distal end of the plug, each plug suture aperture configured to receive a suture.

6. The suture clip of claim 5 , wherein the ring comprises two ring suture apertures positioned oppositely from each other.

7. A non-locking suture clip comprising:

a plug that is adapted to be implanted within a human body, the plug having a head and a shaft extending distally from the head, the shaft having a first diameter and the head having a shoulder with a second diameter greater than the first diameter, the shaft having a reduced neck distal end; and

a ring that is adapted to be implanted within the human body, the ring being continuous and having an inner annular wall defining a through aperture extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the ring, the through aperture having an aperture diameter greater than the first diameter and less than the second diameter, the shoulder adapted to contact an end of the ring to prevent insertion of the head into the through aperture, wherein an axial vacancy is located between the shaft and the annular wall when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture and the shoulder contacts the end of the ring, the axial vacancy adapted to receive a suture therein, the plug and the ring having a non-locking arrangement wherein the plug and the ring do not lock together when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture without the suture located in the axial vacancy.

8. A non-locking suture clip comprising:

a plug that is adapted to be implanted within a human body, the plug having a head and a shaft extending distally from the head, the shaft having a first diameter and the head having a shoulder with a second diameter greater than the first diameter; and

a ring that is adapted to be implanted within the human body, the ring being continuous and having an outer wall and an inner annular wall defining a through aperture extending in a longitudinal direction from a proximal end to a distal end of the ring, the through aperture having an aperture diameter greater than the first diameter and less than the second diameter, the shoulder adapted to contact an end of the ring to prevent insertion of the head into the through aperture, wherein an axial vacancy is located between the shaft and the annular wall when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture and the shoulder contacts the end of the ring, the axial vacancy adapted to receive a suture therein, the plug and the ring having a non-locking arrangement wherein the plug and the ring do not lock together when the shaft is inserted into the through aperture without the suture located in the axial vacancy, the ring including one or more ring suture apertures located between the outer wall and the inner wall, each ring suture aperture extending through the ring in the longitudinal direction from the proximal end to the distal end of the ring, each ring suture aperture configured to receive a suture.

9. The suture clip of claim 8 , wherein the ring comprises two ring suture apertures positioned oppositely from each other.

10. The suture clip of claim 8 , wherein the plug has one or more plug suture apertures extending through the plug from the proximal end to the distal end of the plug, each plug suture aperture configured to a receive suture.

11. The suture clip of claim 10 , wherein the plug has a single plug suture aperture located in the radial center of the plug.

12. The suture clip of claim 10 , wherein the plug has two plug suture apertures, located oppositely from each other and near the radial edge of the head of the plug.
