Abstract

A system for synchronizing digital content stored on a user's mobile handset with digital content stored on the user's personal computer is disclosed.

Claims (29)

1. A method for sharing content between a computer and a mobile device, comprising:

registering, by a mobile device, with a computer;

displaying, on the mobile device, a piece of content stored on the computer;

requesting, in response to a user action on the mobile device, the piece of content from the computer over a wireless network;

receiving the piece of content on the mobile device over the wireless network; and

storing the piece of content in a content store on the mobile device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile device is a mobile handset.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising displaying, on the mobile device, a second piece of content stored on the mobile device.

4. The method of claim 3 further comprising synchronizing one or more pieces of content on the computer with one or more pieces of content stored on the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 3 further comprising storing a playlist of one or more pieces of content on the mobile device and synchronizing the playlist in the mobile device with the computer.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless network comprises a cellular telephone network.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless network comprises a WiFi network.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the piece of content comprises a music piece of content.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the piece of content further comprises a piece of metadata associated with the piece of content and the method further comprises displaying the metadata of the piece of content on the mobile device when the particular piece of content is played on the mobile device.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the piece of metadata further comprises album art, an artist name, duration of the piece of content, or a title of the piece of content.

11. The method of claim 3 further comprising displaying, on the mobile device, only pieces of content stored on the mobile device when the mobile device does not have any connectivity to the wireless network.

12. A system for sharing content between a computer and a mobile device, comprising:

a mobile device having a display that displays a piece of content stored on a computer;

the mobile device having an application configured to register with the computer and to request, in response to a user action on the mobile device, the piece of content from the computer over a wireless network, receive the piece of content over the wireless network, and store the piece of content in a content store.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device is a mobile handset.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the mobile device is configured to store a second piece of content on the mobile device.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the mobile device and computer are configured to synchronize one or more pieces of content on the computer with one or more pieces of content stored on the mobile device.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the mobile device is configured to store a playlist of one or more pieces of content and synchronize the playlist in the mobile device with the computer.

17. The system of claim 12 , wherein the wireless network comprises a cellular telephone network.

18. The system of claim 12 , wherein the wireless network comprises a WiFi network.

19. The system of claim 12 , wherein the piece of content comprises a music piece of content.

20. The system of claim 12 , wherein the piece of content further comprises a piece of metadata associated with the piece of content and the mobile device is configured to display the metadata of the piece of content on the mobile device when the particular piece of content is played on the mobile device.

21. The system of claim 20 , wherein the piece of metadata further comprises album art, an artist name, duration of the piece of content, or a title of the piece of content.

22. The system of claim 14 , wherein the mobile device is configured to display only pieces of content stored on the mobile device when the mobile device does not have any connectivity to the wireless network.
