Client-server based interactive television program guide system with remote server recording
An interactive television program guide system is provided. An interactive television program guide provides users with an opportunity to select programs for recording on a remote media server. Programs may also be recorded on a local media server. The program guide provides users with VCR-like control over programs that are played back from the media servers and over real-time cached copies of the programs. The program guide also provides users with an opportunity to designate gift recipients for whom programs may be recorded.
1. A method of recording programs using a remote server comprising:
receiving a request from user equipment to store a program on a remote server;
in response to the request, storing the program on the remote server;
storing software associated with the program on the remote server, wherein the software associated with the program is an application; and
enabling the user to interact with the software when playing back the program.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the enabling the user to interact with the software comprises executing the software on the remote server.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the enabling the user to interact with the software comprises executing the software on the user equipment.
