Vehicle interior trim panel
View Patent ↗A vehicle interior trim panel is provided with a rigid trim portion, a first flexible trim portion and a second flexible trim portion. The rigid trim portion includes a first assist grip opening and a second assist grip opening. The first flexible trim portion is attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the first assist grip opening. The first flexible trim portion at least partially covers the first assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion. The second flexible trim portion is attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the second assist grip opening. The second flexible trim portion at least partially covers the second assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion.
1. A vehicle interior trim panel comprising:
a rigid trim portion including a first assist grip opening and a second assist grip opening;
a first flexible trim portion attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the first assist grip opening with the first flexible trim portion at least partially covering the first assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion; and
a second flexible trim portion attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the second assist grip opening with the second flexible trim portion at least partially covering the second assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion.
2. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the rigid trim portion has an overall peripheral configuration of a pillar trim panel that covers a vehicle pillar.
3. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the rigid trim portion completely surrounds the first and second assist grip openings with the edges of the first and second assist grip openings each being a continuous annular edge.
4. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are molded onto the rigid trim portion.
5. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
each of the first and second flexible trim portions has a vehicle interior side that flushly mates with a vehicle interior side of the rigid trim portion at the edges of the first and second assist grip openings, respectively.
6. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are directly attached on the edges of the first and second assist grip openings, respectively.
7. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are formed of an elastomer.
8. The vehicle interior trim panel according to claim 1 , wherein
the rigid trim portion is formed of a polypropylene.
9. A vehicle body structure comprising:
a structural vehicle body section;
an assist grip handle fixedly secured to the structural vehicle body section at two spaced apart locations;
a vehicle interior trim panel releasably secured to the structural vehicle body section, the vehicle interior trim panel including
a rigid trim portion including first and second assist grip openings with the assist grip handle projecting through the first and second assist grip openings, and
a first flexible trim portion attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the first assist grip opening with the first flexible trim portion at least partially covering the first assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion such that the first flexible trim portion extends underneath a first end portion of the assist grip handle and into a gap formed between the structural vehicle body section and a first bezel portion of the assist grip handle, and
a second flexible trim portion attached to the rigid trim portion along an edge of the second assist grip opening with the second flexible trim portion at least partially covering the second assist grip opening of the rigid trim portion such that the second flexible trim portion extends underneath a second end portion of the assist grip handle and into a gap formed between the structural vehicle body section and a second bezel portion of the assist grip handle.
10. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , further comprising
an airbag disposed between the vehicle interior trim panel and the structural vehicle body section.
11. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the structural vehicle body section is a portion of a vehicle pillar with the rigid trim portion being a pillar trim panel that covers the vehicle pillar.
12. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the rigid trim portion completely surrounds the first and second assist grip openings with the edges of the first and second assist grip openings each being a continuous annular edge.
13. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are molded onto the rigid trim portion.
14. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
each of the first and second flexible trim portions has a vehicle interior side that flushly mates with a vehicle interior side of the rigid trim portion at the edges of the first and second assist grip openings, respectively.
15. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are directly attached on the edges of the first and second assist grip openings, respectively.
16. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the first and second flexible trim portions are formed of an elastomer.
17. The vehicle body structure according to claim 9 , wherein
the rigid trim portion is formed of a polypropylene.
