Abstract

Table saws are disclosed. The table saws may include a circular blade, an elevation mechanism configured to raise and lower the blade relative to the work surface; and a spring to provide a force biasing the blade up or down relative to the work surface. The spring may be a gas spring connected between a trunnion and an elevation plate.

Claims (13)

1. A table saw comprising:

a table defining a work surface;

a nominally planar, circular blade configured to extend at least partially above the work surface to cut a workpiece on the work surface;

a motor to drive the blade;

an elevation carriage supporting the blade, where the elevation carriage is below the work surface, and where the elevation carriage is configured to move to change the elevation of the blade relative to the work surface;

a rotatable hand wheel adapted to be turned by a user;

a linkage interconnecting the hand wheel and elevation carriage, where the linkage is configured to convert rotational movement of the hand wheel into movement of the elevation carriage; and

a spring to provide a force pushing the elevation carriage up, where the spring is positioned below the work surface.

2. The table saw of claim 1 , where the spring provides a predetermined amount of force.

3. The table saw of claim 1 , where the spring is a gas spring.

4. The table saw of claim 1 , where the spring is connected to the elevation carriage.

5. The table saw of claim 1 , further comprising a tilt mechanism to tilt the blade relative to the work surface, and where the spring is connected between the tilt mechanism and elevation carriage.

6. The table saw of claim 1 , further comprising a trunnion to tilt the blade relative to the work surface, and where the spring is connected to the trunnion and elevation carriage.
