Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing access to teleconference services using voice recognition technology to receive information on packet networks such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Service over Internet Protocol (SoIP) networks are disclosed. In one embodiment, the service provider enables a caller to enter access information for accessing a conference service using at least one natural language response.

Claims (35)

1. A method for providing voice control for accessing a conference service in a communication network, comprising:

receiving a request from a caller to access the conference service;

interacting with the caller to receive access information related to the conference service for joining a particular conference bridge in a natural language response; and

providing access to the conference service if the access information is authenticated to allow the caller to access the conference service.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the communication network is a voice over Internet protocol network or a service over Internet protocol network.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the access information comprises a conference number.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interacting comprises:

prompting the caller to provide the access information using an interactive voice response application.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the interactive voice response application is implemented on a media server.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

starting an authentication process if the caller is a subscriber who is unable to provide the access information.

7. A computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions, the plurality of instructions including instructions which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method for providing voice control for accessing a conference service in a communication network, comprising:

receiving a request from a caller to access the conference service;

interacting with the caller to receive access information related to the conference service for joining a particular conference bridge in a natural language response; and

providing access to the conference service if the access information is authenticated to allow the caller to access the conference service.

8. The computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the communication network is a voice over internet protocol network or a service over internet protocol network.

9. The computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the access information comprises a conference number.

10. The computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the interacting comprises:

prompting the caller to provide the access information using an interactive voice response application.

11. The computer-readable medium of claim 10 , wherein the interactive voice response application is implemented on a media server.

12. The computer-readable medium of claim 7 , further comprising:

starting an authentication process if the caller is a subscriber who is unable to provide the access information.

13. An apparatus for providing voice control for accessing a conference service in a communication network, comprising:

a processor; and

a computer-readable medium in communication with the processor, wherein the computer-readable medium having stored thereon a plurality of instructions, the plurality of instructions including instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform a method, comprising:

receiving a request from a caller to access the conference service;

interacting with the caller to receive access information related to the conference service for joining a particular conference bridge in a natural language response; and

providing access to the conference service if the access information is authenticated to allow the caller to access the conference service.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the communication network is a voice over internet protocol network or a service over internet protocol network.

15. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the access information comprises a conference number.

16. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the interacting comprises:

prompting the caller to provide the access information using an interactive voice response application.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the interactive voice response application is implemented on a media server.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 , further comprising:

starting an authentication process if the caller is a subscriber who is unable to provide the access information.
