Abstract

An aspect of the present invention relates to an online test platform adapted to facilitate the development, delivery, and management of educational tests with interactive participation by students, teachers, proctors, and administrators even when some or all of them are remotely located. The platform may include administrator interfaces, test proctor interfaces, and test taker (e.g. student) interfaces to allow each participant to view, navigate, and interact with aspects of the online test platform that are intended to meet their needs.

Claims (38)

1. A memory containing computer executable code for organizing test taker icons, which when executing on one or more computing devices performs the steps of:

displaying an openable and closable start status panel in an online test proctoring interface;

displaying an openable and closable testing status panel in the online test proctoring interface;

displaying an openable and closable finished status panel in the online test proctoring interface;

displaying, in each of the openable and closable test status panels, a plurality of interactive test taker icons, wherein each of the interactive test taker icons of the plurality of interactive test taker icons represents one of a plurality of test takers, and wherein the status panel that each of the interactive test taker icons is displayed in represents the status of one of the plurality of test takers, wherein at least one of the openable and closable test status panels is open when the online proctoring interface is displayed;

displaying, within the online test proctoring interface and independently from the status panels, a test header that includes a general control, which enables a proctor using the interface to take a proctor action on all test takers simultaneously;

displaying a pop-up window confirmation of the proctor action, when the proctor action is a Void Session action;

receiving an authorization code via the pop-up window confirmation, when the proctor action is the Void Session action;

displaying a text box relating to the proctor action;

receiving, via the text box, information relating to the proctor action;

recording both the proctor action and the information in an audit trail; and

responding to a poll from a server after a test session communication has been interrupted and then reestablished, wherein responding to the poll indicates to the server that the test session communication has been reestablished.

2. The memory of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a status of the test taker in text on the interactive test icon associated with the test taker.

3. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the general control activates an elapsed time display or a time left remaining display.

4. The memory of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a count of test takers associated with each test panel.

5. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is start a test or pause a test.

6. The memory of claim 1 , further comprising a step of selecting a test before the steps of displaying.

7. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is restart a test or end a test.

8. The memory of claim 1 , further comprising allowing the test takers to communicate with the proctor via a communication window and preventing communications where the test takers are using a secure browser.

9. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is add time to a test session.

10. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is subtract time from a test session.

11. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is to text message a test taker.

12. The memory of claim 1 , wherein the proctor action is entering and storing information.

13. A memory containing computer executable code for organizing test taker icons, which when executing on one or more computing devices performs the steps of:

selecting a test for testing in an online test proctoring interface;

displaying an openable and closable start status panel in the online test proctoring interface;

displaying an openable and closable testing status panel in the online test proctoring interface;

displaying an openable and closable finished status panel in the online test proctoring interface;

displaying, in each of the openable and closable test status panels, a plurality of interactive test taker icons, wherein each of the interactive test taker icons of the plurality of interactive test taker icons represents one of a plurality of test takers, and wherein the status panel that each of the interactive test taker icons is displayed in represents the status of one of the plurality of test takers, wherein at least one of the openable and closable test status panels is open when the online proctoring interface is displayed; and

displaying, within the online test proctoring interface and independently from the status panels, a test header that includes a general control, which enables a proctor using the interface to take a proctor action on all test takers simultaneously.

14. The memory of claim 13 , further comprising code for displaying a pop-up window confirmation of the proctor action, when the proctor action is a Void Session action.

15. The memory of claim 14 , further comprising code for receiving an authorization code via the pop-up window confirmation, when the proctor action is the Void Session action.

16. The memory of claim 14 , further comprising code for displaying a text box relating to the proctor action.

17. The memory of claim 14 , further comprising code for receiving, via the text box, information relating to the proctor action.

18. The memory of claim 17 , further comprising code for recording both the proctor action and the information in an audit trail.

19. The memory of claim 13 , further comprising code for responding to a poll from a server after a test session communication has been interrupted and then reestablished, wherein responding to the poll indicates to the server that the test session communication has been reestablished.

20. The memory of claim 13 , further comprising displaying the proctor interface on a handheld or wireless device for the proctor to monitor test taker status.

21. The memory of claim 13 , further comprising taking an action with respect to a single test taker by accessing the interactive icon associated with the test taker, the action selected from the group consisting of start a test, stop a test, pause a test, restart a test, void a test or test section, add time, subtract time, send a text or instant message to the single test taker, receive text or instant messages from the single test taker and provide assistance to the single test taker.
