Abstract

A flat panel display device having improved drop characteristics, that minimize a drop shock of the flat panel display device by controlling the size of a shock-absorbing tape, the flat panel display device including: a display panel having a display part to display an image and a pad part; a supporting member configured to support the display panel; and the shock-absorbing tape disposed between the display panel and the supporting member. The shock-absorbing tape is in contact with the display part of the display panel and ⅓ to ⅚ of the pad part of the display panel.

Claims (39)

1. A flat panel display device, comprising:

a display panel having a display part to display an image and a pad part that does not display the image;

a supporting member to support the display panel; and

a shock-absorbing tape disposed between the display panel and the supporting member, the shock-absorbing tape being in contact with the display part of the display panel and ⅓ to ⅚ of the pad part of the display panel.

2. The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the display panel comprises a first substrate and a second substrate having a smaller area than the first substrate, and the shock-absorbing tape is disposed between the first substrate and the supporting member.

3. The device as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising:

a polarizer disposed on the second substrate of the display panel.

4. The device as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising:

a touch panel disposed on the second substrate of the display panel.

5. The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the supporting member is formed of a metal or synthetic resin.

6. The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the shock-absorbing tape is a double-sided tape.

7. The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the shock-absorbing tape is an insulating tape.

8. The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the shock-absorbing tape is formed of a metal or synthetic resin.

9. The device as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the display part of the display panel is an area in which the first substrate and the second substrate overlap.

10. The device as claimed in claim 2 , further comprising:

a polarizer disposed on the second substrate of the display panel;

a touch panel to receive an input signal; and

an ESP tape disposed between the touch panel and the polarizer.

11. The device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising:

a driving driver provided on the pad part to convert a received image signal into an image signal displayable by the display part as the image.

12. A flat panel display device, comprising:

a display panel having a display part to display an image and a pad part that does not display the image;

a supporting member to support the display panel;

a touch panel to receive an input signal; and

a shock-absorbing tape disposed between the display panel and the supporting member, the shock-absorbing tape being in contact with all of the display part of the display panel and up to ⅚ of the pad part of the display panel.

13. The device as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the display panel comprises a first substrate and a second substrate having a smaller area than the first substrate, and the shock-absorbing tape is disposed between the first substrate and the supporting member.

14. The device as claimed in claim 13 , further comprising:

a polarizer disposed on the second substrate of the display panel.

15. The device as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the supporting member is formed of a metal or synthetic resin.

16. The device as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the shock-absorbing tape is a double-sided tape.

17. The device as claimed in claim 13 , wherein the display part of the display panel is an area in which the first substrate and the second substrate overlap.

18. A flat panel display device, comprising:

a display panel having a display part to display an image and a pad part that does not display the image;

a supporting member to support the display panel; and

a shock-absorbing tape disposed between the display panel and the supporting member, the shock-absorbing tape being in contact with all of the display part of the display panel.

19. The device as claimed in claim 18 , wherein the shock-absorbing tape is in contact with all of the display part and ⅓ to ⅚ of the pad part of the display panel.

20. The device as claimed in claim 18 , further comprising:

a touch panel to receive an input signal,

wherein the shock-absorbing tape is in contact with up to ⅚ of the pad part of the display panel.
