Abstract

In embodiments, the present invention provides a method and system for delivery of content on a mobile media platform, providing a consumption profile, and delivering content to a mobile device, wherein content delivery is based at least in part on the consumption profile. Further, in embodiments, the present invention provides a consumption profile for a mobile media platform comprising a device profile, a user profile, a network profile, an encoding profile, and a content profile.

Claims (35)

1. A method of managing a content item in a media management platform, comprising:

creating a consumption profile for the content item, the consumption profile including attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed and a profile of attributes of networks on which the content item can be delivered;

integrating attributes of the content item with the consumption profile in the media management platform using a processor; and

configuring the content item for delivery using the media management platform based on the consumption profile and integrated attributes of the content item, whereby configuring the content item includes impacting at least two of: a type of the content item ingested, an encoding of the content item, a transcoding of the content item, a frequency of content item ingestion, a processing resource allotted for content ingestion, a schedule of content item encoding, and a schedule of content item transcoding.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile functions as an adapter mechanism enabling a plurality of functions of the media management platform.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to match parameters of content to parameters of a device.

4. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to match a content item to a delivery network.

5. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to match a content item to a delivery time.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to target delivery of content.

7. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to determine an encoding of the content.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein the consumption profile is used to adapt at least one of encoding of the content, delivery network of the content, devices to which the content will be delivered, and a user targeted for the content.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile includes content information regarding a type and source of said content.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein at least one element of the consumption profile is contained as metadata in a file with content corresponding to said consumption profile.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein metadata included in the file as corresponding content is actionable based on the consumption profile.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile impacts content discovery.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile impacts searching for content.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile includes at least one of location information and location intelligence.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the at least one of location information and location intelligence is used to target content.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the content is an advertisement.

17. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile includes information relating to architecture of the media management platform.

18. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile takes a form of a number of combinations of rules that together form a presentment and specifically configured service delivery to a user.

19. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile may impact seamless switching among at least two of unicast, multicast and broadcast content.

20. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile may impact advanced encoding and transcoding.

21. The method of claim 20 wherein parameters and attributes of advanced encoding and transcoding are determined by a consumption profile.

22. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile facilitates automated content tagging.

23. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile facilitates pausing and resuming playback.

24. The method of claim 23 wherein pause markers are maintained as part of the consumption profile.

25. The method of claim 1 further comprising modifying the consumption profile based on data about usage of the content.

26. The method of claim 1 wherein the profile of network attributes includes a profile of at least one wireless network and a profile of at least one wired network.

27. The method of claim 1 wherein the content item is a video content item.

28. The method of claim 1 wherein the content item is an audio content item.

29. The method of claim 1 wherein the network attributes include at least one of a wireless attribute, wire line attribute, a streaming attribute, a pausing attribute, a network usage rules attribute, a maximum bandwidth attribute, an IP address attribute, a cost of bandwidth attribute, an operator cellular based network attribute, a wireless broadband network attribute, a wireless narrowband network attribute, a short range limited bandwidth network attribute and a network technology type attribute.

30. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile includes attributes of encoding of the content.

31. The method of claim 1 wherein the profile of the attributes of networks includes network type.

32. The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile further includes a profile of attributes of a targeted user of the content.
