Abstract

A suspended ceiling system is provided comprising at least first and second parallel inverted tee-runners. Each tee-runner comprises a horizontal flange and a vertical web, with the vertical web having at least two spaced openings therein. At least one ceiling panel is associated with the parallel tee-runners. The ceiling panel has opposed side walls and opposed end walls, with a pair of first tabs formed at one end of the ceiling panel and a pair of second tabs formed at the opposite end of the panel. At least one of the first tabs is relatively longer than at least one of the second tabs, and has a length sufficient so that it extends through one of the spaced openings in the web of the first inverted tee-runner and rests on the flange of the first tee-runner, with the second tabs being supported by the flange of the second tee-runner.

Claims (26)

1. A suspended ceiling system comprising:

at least first and second parallel inverted tee-runners, each tee-runner comprising a horizontal flange and a vertical web, the vertical web having at least two spaced openings therein; and

at least one ceiling panel having opposed first and second sides and opposed first and second ends, with a first pair of tabs formed on opposed sides at the first end of the ceiling panel and a second pair of tabs formed on opposed sides at the second end of the panel, with one tab in each pair being relatively longer than the other tab, the tabs on each side being of different lengths, and each of the tabs in the first pair having a length substantially the same as one of the tabs in the second pair, the relatively longer tab in each pair having a length sufficient so that it extends through one of the spaced openings in the web of the first inverted tee-runner and rests on the flange of the first tee-runner with the shorter tab in each pair being supported by the flange of the second tee-runner.

2. The suspended ceiling system of claim 1 wherein the sides of the panel comprise side walls, the tabs are formed in the side walls, and the side walls are relieved adjacent the tabs.

The suspended ceiling system of claim 1 in which the openings in the web of the tee-runners and the relatively-longer tabs of the ceiling panel are complementarily-shaped so as to limit the lateral positioning of the panel relative to the tee-runner and provide side-to-side alignment of adjacent panels.

4. The suspended ceiling system of claim 1 in which one or both of the pairs of tabs are formed with a shoulder for engaging an edge of the flange of the associated tee-runner to provide end-to-end alignment of adjacent panels.

5. The suspended ceiling system of claim 1 wherein the first end of the ceiling panel is formed with an outwardly-extending flange and the second end is relieved to receive the outwardly-extending flange of an adjacent panel.

6. The suspended ceiling system of claim 1 wherein one of the sides and one of the ends of each ceiling panel is provided with a resilient material for inhibiting vibration between adjacent panels.

7. A suspended ceiling system comprising:

at least first and second parallel inverted tee-runners, each tee-runner comprising a horizontal flange and a vertical web, the vertical web having at least two spaced openings therein; and

at least one ceiling panel having opposed side walls and opposed end walls, with a pair of first tabs formed at one end of the ceiling panel and a pair of second tabs formed at the opposite end of the panel, at least one of the first tabs being relatively longer than at least one of the second tabs, the relatively-longer tab having a length sufficient so that it extends through one of the spaced openings in the web of the first inverted tee-runner and rests on the flange of the first tee-runner with the second tabs being supported by the flange of the second tee-runner.

8. The suspended ceiling system of claim 7 wherein the first tabs are of different lengths, the second tabs are of different lengths, and each of the first tabs is substantially the same length as one of the second tabs, such that diagonally-opposed tabs are of the same length.

9. The suspended ceiling system of claim 8 wherein the tabs are formed in the side walls of the panel, and the tabs in each side wall are of different lengths.

10. The suspended ceiling system of claim 9 wherein the tabs are formed in the side walls of the panel and the side walls are relieved adjacent the relatively-longer tab of each pair.

The suspended ceiling system of claim 10 in which the openings in the web of the tee-runners and the relatively-longer tabs of the ceiling panel are complementarily-shaped so as to limit the lateral positioning of the panel relative to the tee-runner and provide side-to-side alignment of adjacent panels.

12. The suspended ceiling system of claim 7 in which one or both of the pairs of the first tabs and the second tabs of the ceiling panel are formed with a shoulder for engaging an edge of the flange of the associated tee-runner to provide end-to-end alignment of adjacent panels.

13. The suspended ceiling system of claim 7 wherein one end wall of the ceiling panel is formed with an outwardly-extending flange and the other end wall is relieved to receive the outwardly-extending flange of an adjacent panel.

14. The suspended ceiling system of claim 7 wherein one of the side walls and one of the end walls of each ceiling panel is provided with a resilient material for inhibiting vibration between adjacent panels.

15. A ceiling panel for use in a suspended ceiling system comprising at least first and second parallel inverted tee-runners, each tee-runner comprising a horizontal flange and a vertical web, the vertical web having at least two spaced openings therein, the ceiling panel comprising:

opposed side walls and opposed end walls, with a pair of first tabs formed at one end of the ceiling panel and a pair of second tabs formed at the opposite end of the panel, at least one of the first tabs being relatively longer than at least one of the second tabs, the relatively-longer tab having a length sufficient so that it extends through one of the spaced openings in the web of the first inverted tee-runner and rests on the flange of the first tee-runner with the second tabs being supported by the flange of the second tee-runner.

16. The ceiling panel of claim 15 wherein the first tabs are of different lengths, the second tabs are of different lengths, and each of the first tabs is substantially the same length as one of the second tabs, such that diagonally-opposed tabs are of the same length.

17. The ceiling panel of claim 16 wherein the tabs are formed in the side walls of the panel, and the tabs in each side wall are of different lengths.

18. The ceiling panel of claim 17 wherein the tabs are formed in the side walls of the panel and the side walls are relieved adjacent the relatively-longer tab of each pair.

19. A ceiling panel for use in suspended ceiling system comprising at least first and second parallel inverted tee-runners, each tee-runner comprising a horizontal flange and a vertical web, the vertical web having at least two spaced openings therein, the ceiling panel comprising:

opposed side walls and opposed end walls with a pair of first tabs formed at one end of the ceiling panel and a pair of second tabs formed at the opposite end of the panel, the first tabs being relatively longer than the second tabs and having a length sufficient so that each first tab extends through one of the spaced openings in the web of the first inverted tee-runner and rests on the flange of the first tee-runner with the second tabs being supported by the flange of the second tee-runner.

20. The suspended ceiling system of claim 19 wherein the first and second tabs are formed in the side walls of the panel and the side walls are relieved adjacent the first tabs.
