Abstract

A wireless device receives a control command causing the wireless device to transmit a random access preamble on a random access channel of a first cell. The wireless device transmits, overlapping in time with transmission of the random access preamble, an uplink packet on a first subframe of the first cell. Transmission power of the uplink packet is calculated considering a maximum allowable transmission power in the first subframe of the first cell and the transmission power of the random access preamble.

Claims (51)

1. A method comprising:

a) receiving, by a wireless device, at least one radio resource control message from a base station, said at least one radio resource control message to cause in said wireless device:

i) configuration of a plurality of cells comprising a primary cell and at least one secondary cell; and

ii) assignment of each of said at least one secondary cell to a cell group in a plurality of cell groups, each of said plurality of cell groups comprising a subset of said plurality of cells;

b) receiving, by said wireless device, a control command causing said wireless device to transmit a random access preamble on a random access channel of a first cell in a first cell group in said plurality of cell groups; and

c) transmitting, by said wireless device, overlapping in time with transmission of said random access preamble, an uplink packet on a first subframe of said first cell; and

wherein transmission power of said uplink packet is calculated considering:

i) a maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell; and

ii) transmission power of said random access preamble.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said calculation of transmission power of said uplink packet comprises subtracting a calculated power of said random access preamble from said maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell if a summation of transmission powers of said uplink packet and said random access preamble in said first subframe of said first cell exceeds said maximum allowable transmission power.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said maximum allowable transmission power is for said first cell.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein each cell in said plurality of cells is assigned a maximum allowable transmission power.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said uplink packet is one of the following:

a) a physical uplink shared channel data packet; and

b) a physical uplink control channel control packet.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said at least one radio resource control message causes configuration of said random access channel.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said control command comprises an index of said random access preamble.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

a) said first cell group is a secondary cell group; and

b) said first cell is a secondary cell in said secondary cell group.

9. A method comprising:

a) receiving, by a wireless device, at least one radio resource control message from a base station, said at least one radio resource control message to cause in said wireless device configuration of a plurality of cells comprising a primary cell and at least one secondary cell;

b) receiving, by said wireless device, a control command causing said wireless device to transmit a random access preamble on a random access channel of a first cell in a first cell group in said plurality of cell groups; and

c) transmitting, by said wireless device, overlapping in time with transmission of said random access preamble, an uplink packet on a first subframe of said first cell; and

wherein transmission power of said uplink packet is calculated considering:

i) a maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell; and

ii) transmission power of said random access preamble.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said calculation of transmission power of said uplink packet comprises subtracting a calculated power of said random access preamble from said maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell if a summation of transmission powers of said uplink packet and said random access preamble in said first subframe of said first cell exceeds said maximum allowable transmission power.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein said maximum allowable transmission power is for said first cell.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein each cell in said plurality of cells is assigned a maximum allowable transmission power.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein said uplink packet is one of the following:

a) a physical uplink shared channel data packet; and

b) a physical uplink control channel control packet.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein at least one radio resource control message causes configuration of said random channel.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein said control command comprises an index of said random access preamble.

16. The method of claim 9 , wherein:

a) said first cell group is a secondary cell group; and

b) said first cell is a secondary cell in said secondary cell group.

17. A wireless device comprising:

a) one or more communication interfaces;

b) one or more processors; and

c) memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause said wireless device to:

i) receive at least one radio resource control message from a base station, said at least one radio resource control message to cause in said wireless device configuration of a plurality of cells comprising a primary cell and at least one secondary cell;

ii) receive a control command causing said wireless device to transmit a random access preamble on a random access channel of a first cell in a first cell group in said plurality of cell groups; and

iii) transmit, overlapping in time with transmission of said random access preamble, an uplink packet on a first subframe of said first cell; and

wherein transmission power of said uplink packet is calculated considering:

i) a maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell; and

ii) transmission power of said random access preamble.

18. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein said calculation of transmission power of said uplink packet comprises subtracting a calculated power of said random access preamble from said maximum allowable transmission power in said first subframe of said first cell if a summation of transmission powers of said uplink packet and said random access preamble in said first subframe of said first cell exceeds said maximum allowable transmission power.

19. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein said maximum allowable transmission power is for said first cell.

20. The wireless device of claim 17 , wherein each cell in said plurality of cells is assigned a maximum allowable transmission power.
