Abstract

The present disclosure provides a plow blade edge device for mounting to a moldboard of a plow comprising at least one adapter blade including a bottom edge having selectively carbide insert(s) along at least a portion of the bottom edge. The disclosure further provides for a method of brazing the carbide insert(s) in a cavity along at least a portion of the bottom edge. The device further includes at least one wear block selectively reversible to present the adapter blade at a first angle or a second angle. The at least one wear block can include a bottom edge having a carbide insert along at least a portion of the bottom edge.

Claims (31)

1. A plow blade edge system for mounting to a moldboard of a plow comprising: a first plow blade edge segment and a second plow blade edge segment; each plow blade segment including: at least one adapter blade including a channel having a first carbide insert layer under at least a second carbide insert layer along at least a portion of said channel; wherein said first plow blade edge segment is mounted adjacent said second plow blade edge segment;

wherein, in a preheated condition, said first carbide insert layer includes a first layer of braze thereunder and said at least a second carbide insert layer includes a second layer of braze thereunder; and,

wherein, in a heated condition, said first layer and said second layer of braze substantially surround said first carbide insert layer, and said second layer of braze partially surrounds said at least a second carbide insert layer for securing said first carbide insert layer and said at least a second carbide insert layer within said channel.

2. The plow edge system as recited in claim 1 , wherein each said at least one adapter blade is boron steel.

3. The plow edge system as recited in claim 1 , wherein a height of said at least second carbide insert is greater than a height of said first carbide insert.

4. The plow edge system as recited in claim 1 , wherein said at least one adapter blade includes a first interlocking plate and a second interlocking plate;

wherein said second interlocking plate of said at least one adapter blade interlocked with an interlocking plate of at least another adapter blade; and,

said first interlocking plate and said second interlocking plate overlap a junction between said at least one adapter blade and said at least another adapter blade.

5. The plow edge system as recited in claim 1 , wherein a volume of said at least second carbide insert is greater than a volume of said first carbide insert.

6. The plow edge system as recited in claim 1 , wherein said channel includes a first wall and a second wall; and,

said second wall is taller than said first wall.

7. The plow edge system as recited in claim 6 , wherein said at least second carbide insert includes an angled terminal end; and,

said angled terminal end extends from a terminal end of said second wall to a terminal end of said first wall.

8. A blade edge system comprising:

a blade edge segment including:

an adaptor blade having a bottom edge channel;

said bottom edge channel having a first carbide insert layer and a first layer of braze thereunder along at least a portion of said bottom edge channel;

at least a second carbide insert layer and a second layer of braze between said first carbide insert layer and said at least a second carbide insert layer wherein said at least a second carbide insert layer is braised into said bottom edge channel and to said first carbide insert layer; and,

wherein a volume of said at least a second carbide insert layer is greater than a volume of said first carbide insert layer.

9. The blade edge system as recited in claim 8 , wherein a height of said at least a second carbide insert layer is greater than a height of said first carbide insert layer.

10. The blade edge system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said adaptor blade includes a first interlocking plate and a second interlocking plate;

wherein said second interlocking plate of said adaptor blade interlocked with an interlocking plate of at least another adaptor blade.

11. The blade edge system as recited in claim 10 , wherein said first interlocking plate and said second interlocking plate overlap a junction between said adaptor blade and said at least another adaptor blade.

12. The blade edge system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said bottom edge channel includes a first wall and a second wall; and,

said second wall is taller than said first wall.

13. The blade edge system as recited in claim 12 , wherein said at least a second carbide insert layer includes an angled terminal end; and,

said angled terminal end extends from a terminal end of said second wall to a terminal end of said first wall.

14. The blade edge system as recited in claim 13 , wherein a height of said at least a second carbide insert layer is greater than a height of said first carbide insert layer.

15. The blade edge system as recited in claim 13 , wherein said height of said at least a second carbide insert layer is greater than a width of said at least a second carbide insert layer.

16. The blade edge system as recited in claim 13 , wherein said height of said first carbide insert layer is substantially equal to a width of said first carbide insert layer.

17. The blade edge system as recited in claim 8 , wherein said first carbide insert layer and said at least a second carbide insert layer are selected from a group consisting of tungsten carbide, vanadium carbide, and chrome carbide.
