Abstract

Techniques are described for using sensor data derived from a monitoring system to drive personalized content. Sensor data captured by a monitoring system may be used to determine attributes of users of the monitoring system and/or attributes of a property monitored by the monitoring system. The determined attributes may be used to select content to present to users of the monitoring system. Content presentation may be made through the monitoring system and may be triggered based on events detected by the monitoring system.

Claims (42)

1. A system for using sensor data collected via a monitoring system to deliver personalized relevant content, the system comprising:

a monitoring system including one or more sensors configured to sense events related to use of a property of a customer; and

a monitoring application server configured to electronically receive, either directly or via a network communications module, data communications from the monitoring system and provide personalized content to the customer of the monitoring system based on the data communications from the monitoring system,

wherein the monitoring system is configured to send, to the monitoring application server, sensor data that is generated by the one or more sensors included in the monitoring system and that indicates events related to use of the home of the customer sensed by the one or more sensors included in the monitoring system; and

wherein the monitoring application server is configured to:

obtain an agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer based on monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system;

deliver advertising content to the customer based on the monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system;

reduce a fee associated with the monitoring system in accordance with the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer based on monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system; and

arrange payment with advertisers based on the deliver advertising content to the customer.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving, either directly or via a network, customer agreement information entered by the customer through an interface.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving customer agreement information from another electronic device, through an electronic message sent by the customer.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement to receive advertising content through an monitoring system interface that is part of the monitoring system.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement to use monitoring system sensor data in targeting advertisements to the customer through communication mediums other than the monitoring system.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement that reflects user selection between different tiers of advertising agreements.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the different tiers of advertising agreements comprise:

a first tier that provides no advertising content to be delivered using monitoring system data and a full price for a security monitoring fee;

a second tier that allows a single advertisement to be delivered on a display interface of the monitoring system each day for a first reduced security monitoring fee that is lower than the full price;

a third tier that allows three advertisements to be delivered based on the monitoring system data each day through any communication medium chosen by the monitoring application server for a second reduced security monitoring fee that is lower than the first reduced security monitoring fee; and

a fourth tier that allows an unlimited number of advertisements to be delivered based on the monitoring system data each day through any communication medium chosen by the monitoring application server for no fee for security monitoring services.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to reduce the fee associated with the monitoring system in accordance with the agreement with the customer by reducing an installation fee of the monitoring system for the customer.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to reduce the fee associated with the monitoring system in accordance with the agreement with the customer by reducing a security monitoring fee for the customer.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to reduce the fee associated with the monitoring system in accordance with the agreement with the customer by reducing a fee for additional services offered by the monitoring application server.

11. A method of using sensor data collected via a monitoring system to deliver personalized relevant content, the method comprising:

receiving, by a monitoring application server either directly or via a network communications module, data communications from a monitoring system that includes one or more sensors configured to sense events related to use of a property of a customer;

providing, by the monitoring application server, personalized content to the customer of the monitoring system based on the data communications from the monitoring system;

obtaining, by the monitoring application server, an agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer based on monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system;

delivering, by the monitoring application server, advertising content to the customer based on the monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system;

reducing, by the monitoring application server, a fee associated with the monitoring system in accordance with the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer based on monitoring system data collected by the monitoring system; and

arranging, by the monitoring application server, payment with advertisers based on the deliver advertising content to the customer.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving, either directly or via a network, customer agreement information entered by the customer through an interface.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving customer agreement information from another electronic device, through an electronic message sent by the customer.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement to receive advertising content through an monitoring system interface that is part of the monitoring system.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement to use monitoring system sensor data in targeting advertisements to the customer through communication mediums other than the monitoring system.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring application server is configured to obtain the agreement with the customer that allows the monitoring application server to deliver advertising content to the customer by receiving an agreement that reflects user selection between different tiers of advertising agreements.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the different tiers of advertising agreements comprise:

a first tier that provides no advertising content to be delivered using monitoring system data and a full price for a security monitoring fee;

a second tier that allows a single advertisement to be delivered on a display interface of the monitoring system each day for a first reduced security monitoring fee that is lower than the full price;

a third tier that allows three advertisements to be delivered based on the monitoring system data each day through any communication medium chosen by the monitoring application server for a second reduced security monitoring fee that is lower than the first reduced security monitoring fee; and

a fourth tier that allows an unlimited number of advertisements to be delivered based on the monitoring system data each day through any communication medium chosen by the monitoring application server for no fee for security monitoring services.
