Abstract

A method for identifying a patient for later access to an electronic patient record for the patient using a communication device belonging to an inquiring person. The patient record is stored in a database using a primary key which serves to identify the patient and which has at least one unambiguously associated secondary key, where the secondary key used to identify a patient is at least one subscriber information item which characterizes a subscriber in a wireless communication network. The secondary key for identification is transmitted between a mobile terminal used for communication in the wireless communication network and a portal via the at least one communication network.

Claims (23)

1. A method for identifying a patient for later access to an electronic patient record for the patient using a communication device by an inquiring person, the electronic patient record being stored in a database using a primary key which serves to identify the patient and which has at least one secondary key that is associated with the primary key, the method comprising:

using the secondary key to identify a patient, the secondary key being at least one item of subscriber information which characterizes a subscriber in a wireless communication network, the item of subscriber information is a number associated with a telephone of the patient including one of a telephone number of the patient's telephone, a SIM (subscriber identity module) card number of a SIM card of the patient's telephone, and a IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of a patient's mobile terminal;

transmitting the secondary key and authentication information between the communication device and a portal by the inquiring person, the transmitting including transmitting the secondary key for identification of the patient via at least one communication network, the communication device being used for communication in the wireless communication network, the transmitting of the secondary key comprising sending data including the secondary key from the communication device to the portal;

identifying the primary key of the patient using the secondary key and the authentication information received by the portal, the secondary key received at the portal from the communication device being used to obtain the primary key, the authentication information including at least one information selected from the set consisting of: information that identifies the inquiring person who is sending the request to the portal, subscriber information of a mobile device SIM card of the inquiring person, location coordinates of the communication device, and an identification key;

determining that the communication device is an authorized device based on a successful verification of the authentication information;

transmitting the primary key to the communication device; and

accessing, by the communication device, the patient medical record by providing the primary key to the server.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the database storing the electronic patient record is a first database, and further comprising:

using a second database to obtain the primary key of the patient, the second database associating the secondary key with the primary key, the second database being stored on the portal.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the communication device is one of a mobile terminal belonging to the patient and a mobile terminal which is provided with a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card belonging to the patient; and

wherein said identifying using the communication device to at least one of send data to the portal and receive data from the portal.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said sending the data from the communication device is by one of Short Message Service (SMS) messaging and General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) messaging.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the data includes identification data from the inquiring person that is used by the portal to ascertain the communication device sending the data, and further comprising:

receiving the primary key by the communication device.

6. The method as claimed in claim 5 , further comprising:

using the patient's SIM card in a mobile terminal belonging to the inquiring person as the communication device;

sending a SIM-card-related secondary key of the patient's SIM card to ascertain the primary key; and

using the mobile terminal device number of the mobile terminal belonging to the inquiring person to ascertain the inquiring person and the communication device.

7. The method as claimed in claim 6 , wherein the authentication information is a mobile terminal device number of the mobile terminal belonging to the inquiring person.

8. The method as claimed in claim 5 , further comprising:

using the inquiring person's SIM card in the mobile terminal belonging to the patient;

using a SIM-card-related information item of the inquiring person's SIM card to ascertain the inquiring person and hence the communication device; and

using the mobile terminal device number of the patient's mobile terminal as a secondary key to ascertain the primary key.
