Abstract

A storage control device that controls a solid state drive group including two or more solid state drives sharing data storage includes a detector that detects a wear state of each of the solid state drives, a separation controller that separates a solid state drive having a wear value, which represents a wear state, exceeding a first threshold among the solid state drives, and an enlargement controller that, when detecting a solid state drive having a wear value, which represents a wear state, exceeding a second threshold less than the first threshold among the solid state drives in the solid state drive group, enlarges a difference in a wear value, which represents a wear state, between the solid state drive having the wear value exceeding the second threshold and a remainder of the solid state drives.

Claims (21)

1. A storage control device that controls a plurality of solid state drives including a first solid state drive, the storage control device comprising:

a detector that detects a wear state of each of the plurality of solid state drives;

a separation controller that separates a solid state drive of the plurality of solid state drives having a wear value, which represents a wear state, exceeding a first threshold; and

an enlargement controller that, when the wear value of the first solid state drive exceeds a second threshold less than the first threshold, enlarges a difference in the wear value between the first solid state drive and another of the plurality of solid state drives by reducing a spare area of the first solid state drive, the spare area being used for replacing a defective block, wherein

the enlargement controller determines that the wear value of the first solid state drive reaches the first threshold, when the reduced spare area of the first solid state drive has been exhausted by an increase in a number of defective blocks.

2. The storage control device according to claim 1 , wherein when the difference is smaller than a given threshold, the enlargement controller enlarges the difference.

3. The storage control device according to claim 2 , wherein the enlargement controller enlarges the wear value of the first solid state drive having the wear value exceeding the second threshold.

4. The storage control device according to claim 3 , wherein the enlargement controller causes the first solid state drive having the wear value exceeding the second threshold to perform a garbage collection.

5. The storage control device according to claim 2 , wherein the enlargement controller enlarges a spare area of the other of the solid state drives.

6. A storage control method for controlling a plurality of solid state drives including a first solid state drive, the storage control method comprising:

detecting, by a processor, a wear state of each of the plurality of solid state drives;

separating, by the processor, a solid state drive of the plurality of solid state drives having a wear value, which represents a wear state, exceeding a first threshold; and

when the wear value of the first solid state drive exceeds a second threshold less than the first threshold, enlarging, by the processor, a difference in the wear value between the first solid state drive and another of the plurality of solid state drives by reducing a spare area of the first solid state drive, the spare area being used for replacing a defective block, and

determining, by the processor, that that the wear value of the first solid state drive reaches the first threshold, when the reduced spare area of the first solid state drive has been exhausted by an increase in a number of defective blocks.

7. A storage control device that controls a plurality of solid state drives including a first solid state drive, the storage control device comprising:

a memory; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to

detect a wear value representing a wear state of each of the plurality of solid state drives,

when the wear value of the first solid state drive exceeds a second threshold less than a first threshold, enlarge a difference in the wear value between the first solid state drive and another of the plurality of solid state drives by reducing a spare area of the first solid state drive, the spare area being used for replacing a defective block,

determine that the wear value of the first solid state drive reaches the first threshold, when the reduced spare area of the first solid state drive has been exhausted by an increase in a number of defective blocks, and

separate the first solid state drive.
