Abstract

A releasable connection assembly for connecting tubing sections is disclosed. The assembly includes a dual lumen male bayonet connector and a female latch connector. The dual lumen male bayonet connector includes a first shaft and a second shaft, where each of the first and second shafts includes a distal sealing portion defining a sealing surface, a proximal coupling portion, and an annular channel. The female latch connector includes a proximal end, two sealing members and a distal end. A kit is also disclosed. The kit includes a dual lumen male bayonet connector, a blood pressure cuff, and two sections of medical tubing. The two sections of medical tubing engage each of the proximal coupling portions of the first shaft and the second shaft and the blood pressure cuff.

a distal sidewall that is perpendicular with respect to an axis of the axial lumen;

a proximal sidewall having a beveled edge; and

a bottom region connecting the distal sidewall and the beveled edge that has a constant outer diameter and is concentric with and of smaller diameter than the sealing surface,

2. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a rib between the first shaft and the second shaft.

3. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a webbed portion formed between the first shaft and the second shaft that connects the first shaft to the second shaft in parallel.

4. The releasable connection assembly of claim 3 , wherein the webbed portion is proximal to the annular channels of the first shaft and the second shaft.

5. The releasable connection assembly of claim 3 , wherein a ratio of an axial length of the sealing surface to an axial distance between the distal sidewall of the annular channel and the webbed portion is between 0.889 and 1.105.

6. The releasable connection assembly of claim 3 , wherein a distance between central axes of the axial lumen of the first shaft and the second shaft is between 1.695 to 2.035 times the distance between the distal sidewall and the webbed portion.

7. The releasable connection assembly of claim 3 , wherein a ratio of the axial length of the sealing surface to an axial distance between the distal sidewall of the annular channel and the webbed portion is such that a side-load force of up to 10 lbs, as imparted on the dual lumen male bayonet connector, will not break a fluid-tight seal between the sealing surface and the receiving portion of the female latch connector.

8. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the first shaft and the second shaft further comprises a proximal shaft portion that extends proximally from the annular channel.

9. The releasable connection assembly of claim 8 , wherein the proximal shaft portion has a constant outer diameter that is equal to the constant outer diameter of the sealing surface.

12. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein, when the dual lumen male bayonet connector and the female latch connector are connected, the first sections of tubing are in fluid communication with the second sections of tubing through the dual lumen male bayonet connector and the female latch connector.

13. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first sections of tubing are tubing sections of a blood pressure cuff.

14. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the proximal coupling portions comprises a conical frustum coupler that proximally tapers.

15. The releasable connection assembly of claim 14 , wherein each of the proximal coupling portions further comprises a first portion distal of the conical frustum coupler, the first portion having a constant outer diameter smaller than an outer diameter of a distal end of the conical frustum coupler.

16. The releasable connection assembly of claim 15 , wherein the distal end of the conical frustum coupler is configured to retain the first section of tubing.

17. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein:

the female latch connector further comprises a latch structure within an exterior enclosure;

the latch structure having a proximal end that defines the two receiving apertures configured to receive at least part of the distal sealing portions of the first shaft and the second shaft; and

the latch structure being movable relative to the exterior enclosure to release the at least part of the distal sealing portions of the first shaft and the second shaft.

18. The releasable connection assembly of claim 17 , wherein the latch structure is configured to move downward relative to the exterior enclosure to release the at least part of the distal sealing portions of the first shaft and the second shaft.

19. The releasable connection assembly of claim 1 , wherein each of the first sections of tubing and the second section of tubing are sections of medical tubing.
