Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure relates to an indexing terminal including a multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, a first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and a second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location. The multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location includes a plurality of fiber positions with one of the fiber positions optically coupled to the first single fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location.

Claims (27)

1. An indexing terminal comprising:

a multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, a first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, and a second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location including a plurality of fiber positions with one of the fiber positions optically coupled to the first single fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location;

a tether having a first end terminated by a ruggedized multi-fiber optical connector, the ruggedized multi-fiber optical connector having a plurality of fiber positions, one of the fiber positions being optically coupled to the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, others of the fiber positions of the ruggedized multi-fiber connector being optically coupled to the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location by fiber lines, the fiber lines being indexed such that the fiber lines are connected to different fiber positions at the ruggedized multi-fiber connector as compared to at the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location; and

wherein the tether is a patch cable having a second end opposite from the first end, the second end being connectorized by ruggedized multi-fiber optical connector that interfaces with the indexing terminal via a multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection.

2. The indexing terminal of claim 1 , wherein the tether is a stub cable that interfaces with a housing of the indexing terminal at a pass-through location, and wherein the tether is reinforced by a boot adjacent the pass-through location.

3. An indexing terminal comprising:

a multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, a first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, and a second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location including a plurality of fiber positions with one of the fiber positions optically coupled to the first single fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location; and

a tether having a first end terminated by a ruggedized multi-fiber optical connector, the ruggedized multi-fiber optical connector having a plurality of fiber positions, one of the fiber positions being optically coupled to the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, others of the fiber positions of the ruggedized multi-fiber connector being optically coupled to the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location by fiber lines, the fiber lines being indexed such that the fiber lines are connected to different fiber positions at the ruggedized multi-fiber connector as compared to at the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location;

wherein the indexing terminal includes a housing defining a width corresponding to a insertion profile dimension of the housing, wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location defines an exterior port sized for receiving a ruggedized multi-fiber connector, and wherein the width of the housing is less than three times an inner diameter of the exterior port of the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location.

4. The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the tether is a stub cable that interfaces with a housing of the indexing terminal at a pass-through location, and wherein the tether is reinforced by a boot adjacent the pass-through location.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations define exterior ports sized for receiving ruggedized single-fiber connectors, and wherein the width of the housing is less than four times an inner diameter of the exterior port of each of the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing wherein defines a length and a height, wherein the length, the width and the height are perpendicular relative to one another, wherein the length extends between first and second ends of the housing, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the first end, and wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location are at the second end of the housing.

7. The indexing terminal of claim 6 wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location face in the same direction.

8. The indexing terminal of claim 6 , wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location define port axes that are parallel.

9. The indexing terminal of claim 6 , wherein the port axes are included in a common plane that extends along the height of the housing and that bisects the housing.

10. The indexing terminal of claim 6 , wherein the height is at least 3 times as long as the width and the length is at least 4 times as long as the width.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing has opposite first and second ends, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the first end of the housing, and wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location are at the second end of the housing.

12. The indexing terminal of claim 11 , wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location define port axes that are parallel.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing has opposite first and second ends, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the first end of the housing, wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and one of the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations are at the second end of the housing, and wherein and the other of the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations is positioned at the first end of the housing.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location are provided on stub cables that extend outwardly from the housing.

15. The indexing terminal of claim 14 , wherein the housing is flexible.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing includes opposite major sides interconnected by a cylindrical wall, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the cylindrical wall, and wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location, the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location are at the cylindrical wall.

The indexing terminal of claim 16 , wherein the tether extends in a first direction from the housing, wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location faces in a second direction that is opposite from the first direction, and wherein the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations are angled to face partially in the second direction.

18. The indexing terminal of claim 17 , wherein the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations define axes that are angled relative to one another.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing wherein defines a length and a height, wherein the length, the width and the height are perpendicular relative to one another, wherein the length extends between first and second ends of the housing, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the first end and extends in a first direction from the housing, wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location is at the second end of the housing and faces in a second direction that is opposite from the first direction and wherein the first single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location and the second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location are angled to partially face in the second direction.

20. The indexing terminal of claim 19 , wherein the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations define axes that are parallel relative to one another.

The indexing terminal of claim 3 , wherein the housing wherein defines a length and a height, wherein the length, the width and the height are perpendicular relative to one another, wherein the length extends between first and second ends of the housing, wherein the tether interfaces with the housing at the first end and extends in a first direction from the housing, wherein the multi-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection location is at the second end of the housing and faces in a second direction that is opposite from the first direction, and wherein one of the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations is angled to partially face in the second direction and the other of the first and second single-fiber ruggedized de-mateable connection locations is angled to partially face in the first direction.
