Self-supporting composite material made with mycelia cells and method of making same
The composite material is comprised of a substrate of discrete particles and a network of interconnected mycelia cells bonding the discrete particles together. The composite material forms a core to which one or more boards of veneer material are bonded to form a panel.
1. A self-supporting composite material comprising a plurality of layers of engineered substrate wherein each said layer including a plurality of discrete particles and said mycelia cells extend through and around said plurality of discrete particles to bond said particles together into a coherent whole, and a network of interconnected mycelia cells extending through and bonding said layers together.
2. A self-supporting composite material as set forth in claim 1 wherein each layer of said layers is contiguous to an adjacent layer of said layers and said network of interconnected mycelia cells bonds said contiguous layers together.
