Abstract

Disclosed is a composition comprising ascorbic acid or a derivative thereof, a silicone containing compound, and an essential oil, wherein at least 50% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 month at room temperature. The composition can be non-aqueous.

Claims (23)

1. A non-aqueous composition comprising:

(a) particulate ascorbic acid;

(b) 20 to 30% by weight of a silicone containing compound; and

(c) 40 to 50% by weight of an essential oil,

wherein the particulate ascorbic acid is suspended in the silicone containing compound, the composition is non-aqueous, and at least 50% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 month at room temperature.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the particulate ascorbic acid comprises a particle size of less than about 50 μm.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises at least about 1% by weight of the total composition of the ascorbic acid.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the silicone containing compound is cyclomethicone.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the essential oil is selected from the group consisting of sesame oil, macadamia nut oil, tea tree oil, evening primrose oil, Spanish sage oil, Spanish rosemary oil, Coriander oil, Thyme oil, or Pimento berries oil.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include a non-volatile oil.

7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is not an emulsion.

8. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include an emulsifier or a surfactant.

9. The composition of claim 1 , wherein at least 75% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 month at room temperature.

10. The composition of claim 9 , wherein at least 90% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 month at room temperature.

11. The composition of claim 1 , wherein at least 50% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 6 months at room temperature.

12. The composition of claim 11 , wherein at least 75% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 6 months at room temperature.

13. The composition of claim 12 , wherein at least 90% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 6 months at room temperature.

14. The composition of claim 1 , wherein at least 50% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 year at room temperature.

15. The composition of claim 14 , wherein at least 75% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 year at room temperature.

16. The composition of claim 15 , wherein at least 90% of the initial amount of the ascorbic acid in the composition remains stable when the composition is stored for at least 1 year at room temperature.

17. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is comprised in a cosmetic product.

18. A method of treating a skin condition, comprising topically applying the composition of claim 1 to the skin, wherein topical application treats the skin condition.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the skin condition is fine lines or wrinkles in the skin.
