Abstract

An electric device for indicating a leading picture is described. The electronic device includes memory in communication with a processor and instructions stored in the memory. The electronic device encodes a first picture. The electronic device further determines whether a leading picture is present. The electronic device further generates an explicit leading picture indicator if a leading picture is present. The electronic device further sends the explicit leading picture indicator if a leading picture is present.

Claims (22)

1. An electronic device for indicating information on a leading picture, the electronic device comprising:

at least one processor;

at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, working with the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to perform at least the following:

identify a first random access picture that occurs at a random access point in a bitstream of data where decoding of the bitstream can be started, wherein the first random access picture does not refer to any picture or pictures other than itself for prediction in decoding;

generate a Network Access Layer (NAL) unit type of the first random access picture indicating whether or not the first random access picture has a subsequent leading picture; and

send the NAL unit type.

2. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the first random access picture is a clean random access (CRA) picture.

3. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the first random access picture is an instantaneous decoding refresh (IDR) picture.

4. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the NAL unit type is associated with the first random access picture with a subsequent leading picture.

5. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the NAL unit type is associated with the first random access picture without a subsequent leading picture.

6. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the subsequent leading picture follows the first random access picture in a decoding order and precedes the first random access picture in an output order.

7. The electronic device in claim 1 , wherein the first random access picture includes only intra-prediction slices (I-slices) that are decoded using intra-prediction only.

8. A method for indicating a leading picture, the method comprising:

identifying a first random access picture that occurs at a random access point in a bitstream of data where decoding of the bitstream can be started, wherein the first random access picture does not refer to any picture or pictures other than itself for prediction in decoding;

generating a Network Access Layer (NAL) unit type of the first random access picture indicating whether or not the first random access picture has a subsequent leading picture; and

sending the NAL unit type.

9. The method in claim 8 , wherein the first random access picture is a clean random access (CRA) picture.

10. The method in claim 8 , wherein the first random access picture is an instantaneous decoding refresh (IDR) picture.

11. The method in claim 8 , wherein the NAL unit type is associated with the first random access picture with a subsequent leading picture.

12. The method in claim 8 , wherein the NAL unit type is associated with the first random access picture without a subsequent leading picture.

13. The method in claim 8 , wherein the subsequent leading picture follows the first random access picture in a decoding order and precedes the first random access picture in an output order.

14. The method in claim 8 , wherein the first random access picture includes only intra-prediction slices (I-slices) that are decoded using intra-prediction only.
