Abstract

An orthopaedic implant impactor which includes a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. A trigger is pivotably connected to the distal end, the trigger having a cam end. A push rod is within the shaft and is connected to the cam end of the trigger.

Claims (23)

1. An orthopaedic implant impactor, comprising:

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end;

a trigger pivotably connected to said distal end, said trigger including a cam end; and

a push rod within said shaft and connected to said cam end of said trigger;

a nonthreaded wedge associated with said push rod, said wedge including a first wedge face, a second wedge face, and a slot extending from said first wedge face to said second wedge face, said slot configured for receiving a coupling pin; and

an impaction collar subassembly connected to said push rod, said impaction collar subassembly including an impaction collar and a threaded pair, said wedge being inserted between said threaded pair, said threaded pair and said wedge being held at least partially within said impaction collar, said threaded pair including a first half with a first wedge end which has a first hole and a second half with a second wedge end which has a second hole, said impaction collar subassembly further including said coupling pin inserted through said first hole, said second hole, and said slot and connected to said impaction collar.

2. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 1 , wherein said push rod is linearly displaceable along said shaft when said trigger is rotated, said push rod being nonrotatable.

3. The orthopaedic implant imp actor of claim 1 , said impaction collar subassembly including said threaded pair held together with an O-ring.

4. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 3 , said O-ring held at least partially within said impaction collar.

5. The orthopaedic implant imp actor of claim 3 , further including a shaft collar connected to said proximal end of said shaft, and a release button connected to a release pin, where both said release button and said release pin are connected to and biased toward an end of said shaft collar with a resilient member, said impaction collar subassembly including a release pin hole engageable with said release pin to lock said impaction collar subassembly to said shaft collar.

6. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 1 , wherein said push rod extends substantially from said proximal end to said distal end, said shaft includes an aperture exposing said push rod along a substantial length of said push rod.

7. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 1 , said wedge being linearly displaceable by said push rod and thereby configured for selectively moving said threaded pair between an open position and a closed position.

8. An orthopaedic implant impactor, comprising:

a trigger having a cam end;

a push rod connected to said cam end of said trigger;

a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, said push rod extending substantially from said proximal end to said distal end, said shaft including an aperture exposing said push rod along a substantial length of said push rod; and

a nonthreaded wedge associated with said push rod, said wedge including a first wedge face, a second wedge face, and a slot extending from said first wedge face to said second wedge face, said slot configured for receiving a coupling pin; and

an impaction collar subassembly connected to said push rod, said impaction collar subassembly including an impaction collar and a threaded pair, said wedge being inserted between said threaded pair, said threaded pair and said wedge being held at least partially within said impaction collar, said threaded pair including a first half with a first wedge end which has a first hole and a second half with a second wedge end which has a second hole, said impaction collar subassembly further including said coupling pin inserted through said first hole, said second hole, and said slot and connected to said impaction collar.

9. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 8 , wherein said trigger is pivotably connected to said distal end, said push rod is linearly displaced along said shaft when said trigger is rotated.

10. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 8 , said impaction collar subassembly including said threaded pair held together with an O-ring.

11. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 10 , said O-ring held at least partially within said impaction collar.

12. The orthopaedic implant imp actor of claim 10 , further including a shaft collar connected to said proximal end of said shaft, and a release button connected to a release pin, where both said release button and said release pin are connected to and biased toward an end of said shaft collar with a resilient member, said impaction collar subassembly including a release pin hole engageable with said release pin to lock said impaction collar subassembly to said shaft collar.

13. The orthopaedic implant impactor of claim 8 , said wedge being linearly displaceable by said push rod and thereby configured for selectively moving said threaded pair between an open position and a closed position.
