LAMINATED FABRIC CONSTRUCTION WITH HEAT ACTIVATED POLYURETHANEUREA COMPOSITIONS
Articles comprising multiple layers are included. The multiple layer articles may include fabrics or foams in combination with a polyurethaneurea composition such as a film or an aqueous dispersion.
1 . An article comprising multiple layers comprising:
(a) at least two layers; and
(b) at least one polyurethaneurea film.
2 . The article of claim 1 , wherein said film is cast from an aqueous polyurethaneurea dispersion.
3 . The article of claim 2 , wherein said dispersion is substantially solvent free.
4 . The article of claim 2 , wherein said dispersion comprises a prepolymer comprising
(a) at least one polyol selected from polyethers, polyesters, polycarbonates, and combinations thereof, wherein the polyol has a number average molecular weight of 600 to 3500;
(b) a mixture of 4,4′- and 2,4′-methylene bis(phenyl isocyanyate) (MDI) isomers, wherein the ratio of 4,4′-MDI to 2,4′MDI isomers ranges from 65:35 to 35:65; and
(c) at least one diol compound comprising: (i) hydroxy groups capable of reacting with the mixture of MDI isomers of component b), and (ii) at least one carboxylic acid group capable of forming a salt upon neutralization, wherein said at least one carboxylic acid group is incapable of reacting with the mixture of MDI isomers.
5 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the film is between the at least two layers.
6 . The article of claim 1 , wherein said at least two layers are selected from the group consisting of (a) two fabric layers, (b) two foam layers, (c) a fabric layer and a foam layer, and combinations thereof.
7 . The article of claim 1 , wherein said at least two layers include at least two fabric layers and at least two foam layers.
8 . The article of claim 7 , wherein the film is adjacent to a foam layer on each side and each foam layer is adjacent to a fabric layer.
9 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the article is molded.
10 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the article is pressed.
11 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the film extends throughout the entire area of the multiple layer article.
12 . The article of claim 1 , wherein the film extends to a portion of the area of the multiple layer article.
13 . The article of claim 1 , wherein at least two polyurethaneurea films are included.
14 . The article of claim 4 , wherein said polyurethaneurea dispersion comprises a polymer having a weight average molecular weight from about 40,000 to about 150,000.
15 . The article of claim 4 , wherein said polyurethaneurea dispersion comprises a polymer having a weight average molecular weight from about 100,000 to about 150,000.
16 . The article of claim 4 , wherein said polyurethaneurea dispersion comprises a polymer having a weight average molecular weight from about 120,000 to about 140,000.
17 . The article of claim 1 , wherein said film is porous.
18 . The article of claim 1 , wherein said film is perforated.
19 . The article of claim 1 in the form of a garment.
20 . The article of claim 6 , further comprising an adhesive between two or more layers.
21 . The article of claim 20 , wherein said adhesive is a hot melt adhesive, a contact adhesive, a thermoset, a thermoplastic, or a polyurethaneurea aqueous dispersion.
22 . An article comprising multiple layers comprising:
(a) at least two layers; and
(b) a polyurethaneurea aqueous dispersion.
23 . The article of claim 22 , wherein said dispersion comprises a prepolymer comprising
(a) at least one polyol selected from polyethers, polyesters, polycarbonates, and combinations thereof, wherein the polyol has a number average molecular weight of 600 to 3500;
(b) a mixture of 4,4′ and 2,4′-methylene bis(phenyl isocyanate) (MDI) isomers, wherein the ratio of 4,4′-MDI to 2,4′MDI isomers ranges from 65:35 to 35:65; and
(c) at least one diol compound comprising: (i) hydroxy groups capable of reacting with the mixture of MDI isomers of component b), and (ii) at least one carboxylic acid group capable of forming a salt upon neutralization, wherein said at least one carboxylic acid group is incapable of reacting with the mixture of MDI isomers.
24 . The article of claim 23 , wherein said dispersion is substantially free of solvent.
25 . The article of claim 22 , wherein said dispersion is an adhesive.
26 . The article of claim 22 , wherein said dispersion is between layers.
27 . The article of claim 22 , wherein said at least two layers are selected from the group consisting of (a) two fabric layers, (b) two foam layers, (c) a fabric layer and a foam layer, and combinations thereof.
28 . The article of claim 22 , wherein the dispersion is sprayed onto a layer.
29 . The article of claim 22 in the form of a garment.
30 . An article comprising:
(a) at least two layers; and
(b) at least one polyurethaneurea film;
wherein said film is laminated between said at least two layers and said article has been molded.
31 . The article of claim 30 , wherein said at least two layers are selected from the group consisting (a) two fabric layers, (b) two foam layers, (c) a fabric layer and a foam layer, and combinations thereof.
32 . The article of claim 30 , further comprising an aqueous polyurethaneurea dispersion.
33 . An article comprising:
(a) at least one fabric layer; and
(b) at least one polyurethaneurea composition selected from the group consisting of films, dispersion, and combinations thereof.
34 . The article of claim 33 , wherein said article is a garment and said polyurethaneurea composition reduces relative movement between a garment and a substrate.
35 . The article of claim 34 , wherein said substrate is skin.
