Abstract

A method for operating an integrated transceiver, comprising coupling an operating transmitter and an operating receiver within the integrated wideband receiver, inputting a signal into the operating transmitter, performing a first conversion of the signal, wherein the signal is converted into a second signal, transmitting the second signal into the operating receiver, performing a second conversion of the signal, wherein the signal is converted into a third signal, transmitting the third signal into the operating transmitter, and adjusting the operating transmitter.

Claims (41)

1. A method for operating an integrated transceiver, comprising:

coupling an operating transmitter and an operating receiver within the integrated transceiver;

inputting a first signal into the operating transmitter, wherein the first signal comprises an information content;

performing a first conversion of the first signal, wherein the first signal is converted into a second signal, wherein the second signal comprises the information content;

transmitting the second signal into the operating receiver;

performing a second conversion of the second signal, wherein the second signal is converted into a third signal, wherein the third signal comprises the information content;

transmitting the third signal into the operating transmitter;

adjusting the operating transmitter based on the information content of the third signal; and

transmitting the information content by the operating transmitter from an antenna.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmission of the third signal into the operating transmitter forms a closed loop.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the closed loop is used to perform training of the operating transmitter.

4. The method of claim 2 , further comprising operating the integrated transceiver in time division duplex mode.

5. The method of claim 2 , further comprising operating the integrated transceiver in frequency division duplex mode.

6. The method of claim 2 , further comprising sharing the operating receiver among multiple transmitters.

7. The method of claim 2 , wherein performing the second conversion comprises at least in part modifying the second signal through a shared switch circuit, wherein the shared switch circuit is part of the operating receiver.

8. A method of operating an integrated transceiver, comprising:

accepting a first signal from a source into a transmitter of the transceiver, the first signal comprising an information content at a baseband frequency, wherein the transmitter transmits on a predefined frequency bandwidth from an antenna during a downlink time and does not transmit during an uplink time, wherein the predefined frequency bandwidth is a radio frequency bandwidth;

preparing the first signal for transmission by the transmitter, the prepared first signal comprising the information content;

passing at least part of the prepared first signal into a receiver of the transceiver, wherein the receiver receives a second signal from an antenna on the predefined frequency bandwidth during the uplink time;

sampling the prepared first signal by the receiver during the downlink time to form a sampled signal, the sampled signal comprising the information content;

passing the sampled signal through the receiver to create a received sampled signal, the received sampled signal comprising the information content; and

passing the received sampled signal into the transmitter.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the received sampled signal is used to train the transmitter.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the training of the transmitter comprises adjusting the pre-distortion of the transmitter.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the at least part of the first signal is an analog signal.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the received sampled signal is a digital signal.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the source is an antenna.

14. A method of operating an integrated transceiver, comprising:

accepting a first signal from a source into a transmitter of the transceiver, wherein the first signal is in a baseband frequency bandwidth and comprises an information content;

preparing the first signal for transmission by the transmitter, wherein the transmitter transmits in a first radio frequency bandwidth;

passing at least part of the prepared first signal into a receiver, wherein the prepared first signal comprises the information content, and wherein the receiver monitors both the first radio frequency bandwidth and a second radio frequency bandwidth, wherein the first radio frequency bandwidth and the second radio frequency bandwidth are not identical;

detecting the transmission of the prepared first signal from the transmitter, the detected signal comprising the information content;

creating a sampled signal from the detected signal, the sampled signal comprising the information content;

passing the sampled signal through the receiver to create a received sampled signal, the received sampled signal comprising the information content; and

passing the received sampled signal into the transmitter.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising using the received sample signal to train the transmitter.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the training of the transmitter comprises adjusting the pre-distortion of the transmitter.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the at least part of the prepared first signal is an analog signal.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the received sampled signal is a digital signal.

19. The method of claim 14 , further comprising folding the at least part of the prepared first signal with a receiver signal in the second radio frequency bandwidth received by an antenna and passed to the receiver.

20. The method of claim 14 , further comprising switching the first signal through a shared switch circuit.
