Contextual Mobile Content Placement on a Mobile Communication Facility
In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for displaying mobile content in association with a website on a mobile communication facility based at least in part on receiving a website request from a mobile carrier gateway, receiving contextual information relating to the requested website, associating the received contextual information with a mobile content, and, finally, displaying the mobile content with the website on a mobile communication facility.
1 . A method for presenting an advertisement in association with a web page displayed on a mobile communication facility, the method comprising the steps of:
determining a first relevancy score based upon a statistical association between at least a first advertisement and one or more keywords;
determining a second relevancy score based upon a statistical association between at least a second advertisement and the one or more keywords;
receiving a web page request from the mobile communication facility;
receiving contextual information from the web page, wherein the contextual information includes at least the one or more keywords;
adding the at least one or more keywords to a user profile, wherein the user profile includes a user characteristic datum relating to a characteristic of the user of the mobile communication facility; and
presenting the first advertisement to be displayed on the mobile communication facility based upon a determination that the first relevancy score is greater than the second relevancy score.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual information further includes a link structure.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual information further includes an inbound link.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual information further includes an outbound link.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual information further includes a text.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the contextual information further includes meta-data.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the statistical association between the first and second advertisements and the one or more keywords is performed at least in part on a server.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of providing an opt-in function to an entity associated with the web page, wherein acceptance of the opt-in function causes a statistical association to be performed between advertisements, the user profile, and the one or more keywords.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user characteristic datum is selected from the list consisting of:
a) age or birthdate of the user;
b) gender of the user;
c) race of the user;
d) religion of the user;
e) marital status of the user;
f) area code of the phone number assigned to the mobile communication facility;
g) zip code of the user;
h) home address of the user;
i) work address of the user;
j) billing address of the user;
k) type of credit card the user uses to pay the carrier;
l) birthplace of the user;
m) employer of the user;
n) employment position of the user;
o) income bracket of the user; and
p) type of mobile communication facility
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first relevance score and the second relevance score are based at least in part on a statistical association between the at least one or more keywords and the user characteristic datum stored in the user profile.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more keywords is a category.
12 . The method of claim 1 wherein the user characteristic datum includes an aggregate of user characteristic data.
13 . The method of claim 1 wherein the user characteristic datum includes a range of values.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein the user characteristic datum is a user characteristic category.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user characteristic datum is a usage history.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the usage history is a browse history.
17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the usage history is an ad conversion history.
18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user characteristic datum is derived from a third party data source.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the third party data source is a wireless provider database.
20 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the third party data source is commercial consumer database.
