Abstract

Disclosed herein is a mobile device comprising a base providing a display and a rotatable portion providing an input mechanism. The rotatable portion is rotatable about a coupling between at least a first position in which the rotatable portion covers a part of the display and a second position in which the rotatable portion exposes more of the display while leaving the input mechanism accessible to a user. In at least one variant embodiment, the rotatable portion may be rotatable to a third position “behind” the base with the input mechanism remaining accessible to the user.

3 . The mobile device of claim 1 , further comprising a position sensor configured to detect when the cover is in the first position and when the cover is in the second position.

4 . The mobile device of claim 3 , wherein the display is configured to output data in a portrait mode when the position sensor detects that the cover is in the first position, and to output data in a landscape mode when the sensor detects that the cover is in the second position.

5 . The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the cover front surface is substantially four-sided.

6 . The mobile device of claim 5 , wherein the cover front surface is substantially square-shaped.

7 . The mobile device of claim 1 , wherein the cover rotates about 90 degrees about the first axis of rotation when rotating from the first position to the second position.

8 . The mobile device of claim 1 :

wherein the base front surface is bound by opposing first and second short sides of the base front surface and opposing first and second long sides of the base front surface, the first short side of the base front surface and the first long side of the base front surface converging at the one of the four corners of the base front surface;

wherein the cover front surface is bound by at least first and second sides, and the first and second sides converge at a corner of the cover front surface that is adjacent to the coupling;
