Abstract

A radio communication apparatus includes a receiving section that receives a quality indication signal from a communicating station of a communicating party, a transmitting section that transmits transmission data corresponding to the quality indication signal to the communicating station, and a non-transmission information notifying section that notifies the communicating station of the communicating party of non-transmission information indicative of not transmitting the transmission data when the apparatus does not transmit the transmission data corresponding to the quality indication signal or the apparatus cannot transmit the transmission data to the communicating station. When the communicating terminal apparatus receives the non-transmission information indicative of not transmitting the transmission data, resources are saved in that the apparatus stops awaiting the data.

Claims (37)

1. A radio communication apparatus for communicating with a plurality of communication stations and comprising:

a receiving section configured to receive a quality indication signal from each of the plurality of communication stations, each quality indication signal indicating a quality of a respective communication path between the radio communication apparatus and the communication station associated with each quality indication signal;

a generating section configured to generate, based on the plurality of quality indication signals, non-transmission information including notification for a specified communication station that transmission data exists but is not scheduled to be transmitted to the specified communication station; and

a transmitting section configured to transmit transmission data to the plurality of communication stations, and also configured to transmit the non-transmission information to the specified communication station.

2. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit the non-transmission information including information on a size of the transmission data that is not scheduled to be transmitted.

3. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit information regarding at least one of a time, slot number and frame number of packet data scheduled to include the transmission data.

4. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit information notifying the specified communicating station of scheduling information of the transmission data based on the quality indication signal.

5. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit the non-transmission information using a channel different from a channel used in transmitting the transmission data.

6. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit the non-transmission information using a common channel for use in notifying the specified communication station of the presence of the transmission data.

7. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to select whether to transmit the non-transmission information based upon a type of data that is not scheduled to be transmitted.

8. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit the non-transmission information using the same channel as a channel used in transmitting the transmission data.

The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein a modulation scheme and a coding rate applied to the transmission data are varied adaptively based on a transmission channel state between the radio communication apparatus and the specified communication station; and wherein the transmitting section is configured to assign a modulation scheme and a coding rate based upon error correcting capability to the non-transmission information.

The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a scheduling section configured to generate scheduling information regarding transmission data to a plurality of communication stations; and wherein the scheduling section is configured to increase a transmission priority of non-transmission information.

11. The radio communication apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transmitting section is configured to transmit the non-transmission information when a certain time elapses after the transmitting section stops transmitting transmission data.

12. A radio communication station for communication with a radio communication apparatus, and including a multi-layer data processing hierarchy, the radio communication station comprising:

a demodulation section configured to demodulate transmission data received from the radio communication apparatus;

a data storage section configured to store the demodulated data;

a data processing section configured to read the stored demodulated data from the data storage section, perform predetermined data processing on the read demodulated data, and output the processed data to an upper layer; and

a non-transmission information acquisition section configured to acquire non-transmission information including information that next transmission data exists but is not scheduled to be transmitted to the radio communication station for a predetermined period;

wherein the data processing section is configured to provide packet data that includes the read demodulated data and output the packet data to the upper layer without the next transmission data when the non-transmission information acquisition section acquires the non-transmission information.

13. The communicating station according to claim 12 , wherein providing the read demodulated data to the upper layer also includes providing an embedded error detecting code.

The communicating station according to claim 12 , wherein the non-transmission information acquisition section is configured to acquire information indicating a size of non-transmitted data, and the data processing section embeds, within the packet data, an amount of dummy data corresponding to the size of non-transmitted data.

15. A radio communication method performed by a radio communication apparatus, the method comprising;

receiving a quality indication signal from each of a plurality of communication stations, each quality indication signal indicating a quality of a respective communication path between the radio communication apparatus and the communication station associated with each quality indication signal;

generating, based on the plurality of quality indication signals, non-transmission information including notification for a specified communication station that transmission data exists but is not scheduled to be transmitted to the specified communication station; and

transmitting the transmission data to the plurality of communication stations, and transmitting the non-transmission information to the specified communicating station.

16. The method according to claim 15 , wherein transmitting includes transmitting the non-transmission information with information on a size of the transmission data that is not scheduled to be transmitted.

17. The method according to claim 15 , wherein transmitting includes transmitting the non-transmission information using a channel different from a channel used in transmitting the transmission data.

18. The method according to claim 15 , wherein the non-transmission information is transmitted using a common channel for use in notifying the specified communication station of the presence of the transmission data.

19. A radio communication method performed by a communication station including a multi-layer data processing hierarchy, the method comprising:

demodulating transmission data received from a radio communication apparatus;

storing the demodulated data to a buffer;

reading the stored demodulated data from the buffer;

performing data processing on the read demodulated data, and outputting the processed data to an upper layer; and

acquiring non-transmission information including information that next transmission data exists but is not scheduled to be transmitted to the communication station for a predetermined period;

wherein processed data is provided with read demodulated data and is outputted to the upper layer without the next transmission data when the non-transmission information is acquired.

20. The method according to claim 19 , wherein the non-transmission information includes information indicating a size of non-transmitted data, and the processed data includes an amount of dummy data corresponding to the size of non-transmitted data.
