Method for Controlling the Operation of a Processing Unit of a Wireless Communications Device, and Corresponding Communications Device
Method for controlling the operation of a processing unit (IC) of a wireless communications device (WAP) connected to a network (RES) via a communications channel, said processing unit being configured to process at least one application for processing data exchanged with the network (ATEL). The method comprises, in the presence of a detected or predictable processing overload of the processing unit, a transmission from the device to the network (RES) of quality information representing ( 105 ) a fictitious quality of said channel lower than the quality of said channel in such a way as to obtain a reduction in the speed of said data transmitted from the network to the device.

8 . A method of controlling the operation of a processing unit of a wireless communications device connected to a network via a communications channel, comprising:
executing at least one application for processing data exchanged with the network;
detecting or predicting a processing overload of the processing unit; and
transmitting to the network quality information representing a fictitious quality of the communications channel lower than the actual quality of the channel, so as to obtain a reduction in the speed of said data transmitted from the network to the device.
9 . The method of to claim 8 wherein transmitting fictitious channel quality information to the network comprises:
determining the maximum downlink data speed which can be supported by the processing unit with no risk of processing overload; and
converting the determined data speed into the fictitious channel quality information.
10 . The method of claim 8 wherein the application for processing data exchanged with the network comprises a High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) processing application.
11 . A wireless communications device comprising:
an interface configured to be connected to a network via a communications channel;
a processing unit configured to process at least one application for processing data intended to be exchanged with the network;
a detector application operative to detect an existing or predictable processing overload of the processing unit; and
an elaborating application operative to elaborate, in the presence of an existing or predictable processing overload, quality information representing a fictitious quality of the communications channel lower than the actual quality of the channel, and to forward the fictitious quality information to the interface for transmission to the network.
12 . The device of claim 11 wherein the elaborating application comprises:
a determination function operative to determine the maximum downlink data speed which can be supported by the processing unit without risk of processing overload; and
a conversion function operative to convert the determined maximum downlink data speed into the fictitious channel quality information.
13 . The device of claim 11 wherein the application for processing data intended to be exchanged with the network comprises a High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) processing application.
14 . The device of claim 13 wherein the HSDPA processing application includes a conversion function.
15 . The device of claim 11 wherein the channel quality information comprises a channel quality indicator (CQI).
