Abstract

The present invention mechanically protects a surface of a miniaturized liquid crystal display device for mobile phone or the like without deteriorating image quality or increasing a thickness of the device. In the present invention, a liquid crystal display panel has a TFT substrate, a color filter substrate, a lower polarizer adhered to a TFT substrate's lower surface, and an upper polarizer adhered to an color filter substrate's upper surface. A face plate is adhered to the upper polarizer using an acrylic adhesive material cured by ultraviolet rays. For enhancing strength and adhesion of the face plate, corners and side portions of the face plate are chamfered. By making the face plate's profile smaller than the upper polarizer's profile, the adhesion properties of the face plate are enhanced. The present invention protects the liquid crystal display panel's surface without deteriorating image quality or substantially increasing the display device's thickness.

Claims (9)

1 . A liquid crystal display device, comprising:

a liquid crystal display panel having a TFT substrate, a color filter substrate, and liquid crystal which is sandwiched between the TFT substrate and the color filter substrate, the TFT substrate having pixel electrodes and TFTs for controlling signals to the pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix array, the color filter substrate having color filters arranged on a side of the liquid crystal that is adjacent to the liquid crystal;

an upper polarizer that is adhered to an upper surface of the color filter substrate;

an lower polarizer that is adhered to a lower surface of the TFT substrate; and

a faceplate that is mounted on a screen side of the liquid crystal display panel using an adhesive material,

wherein the adhesive material is an ultraviolet curing resin, and

a side portion of the face plate is chamfered with a cutting size of 0.05 millimeters or more.

2 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein the face plate is made of glass.

3 . The liquid crystal display device according to claim 1 , wherein a corner portion of the face plate is chamfered with a cutting size of 0.3 millimeters or more.
