Abstract

An electrical device, includes electrical pins that protrude from an enclosing metal housing. A compressible protrusion around the pins is formed out of the material of the metal housing. The protrusion is formed such that (1) an EMI shield does not exist around the pins when the pins are not engaged to an electrical coupler, and (2) the EMI shield is formed around the electrical pins when the protrusion is compressed by an electrical coupler engaging the electrical pins.

Claims (39)

1. An electrical device, comprising: electrical pins that protrude through a metal sidewall of an enclosure; and a compressible protrusion around electrical pins formed out of metal of the metal sidewall, the compressible protrusion formed such that (a) an EMI shield does not exist around the electrical pins when the electrical pins are not engaged to an electrical coupler, and (b) the EMI shield is formed around the electrical pins when the compressible protrusion is compressed by the electrical coupler engaging the electrical pins; and bending the compressible protrusion inwardly toward the electrical pins.

2. The electrical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

at least one diplexer device enclosed within the enclosure.

3. The electrical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

the electrical pins comprising at least one coaxial cable connector.

4. The electrical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

the enclosure formed with a continuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

5. The electrical device of claim 1 , further comprising:

the enclosure formed with a discontinuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

6. The electrical device of claim 5 , further comprising:

the discontinuous compressible protrusion comprising fingers of metal formed from the metal of the metal sidewall.

7. The electrical device of claim 6 , further comprising:

the fingers of metal spaced apart by less than a wavelength of a highest frequency signal to be handled by the electrical device.

8. An electrical device, comprising:

a printed circuit board comprising electrical pins that protrude through sidewall metal of an enclosure sidewall of an enclosure of the printed circuit board; and

a compressible protrusion around the electrical pins formed out of the sidewall metal of the enclosure of the printed circuit board, the compressible protrusion formed such that (a) an EMI shield does not exist around the electrical pins when the electrical pins are not engaged to an electrical coupler, and (b) the EMI shield is formed from the compressible protrusion around the electrical pins when the compressible protrusion is compressed into contact with a ground pad of the printed circuit board by the electrical coupler engaging the electrical pins; and bending the compressible protrusion inwardly toward the electrical pins.

9. The printed circuit board of claim 8 , further comprising:

at least one diplexer device.

10. The printed circuit board of claim 8 , further comprising:

at least one coaxial cable connector.

11. The printed circuit board of claim 8 , further comprising:

the sidewall metal formed into a continuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

12. The printed circuit board of claim 8 , further comprising:

the sidewall metal formed into a discontinuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

13. The printed circuit board of claim 12 , further comprising:

the discontinuous compressible protrusion comprising fingers of metal.

14. The printed circuit board of claim 13 , further comprising:

the fingers of metal spaced apart by less than a wavelength of a highest frequency signal to be handled by the electrical device.

15. A communication network component, comprising: a printed circuit board having an electrical device mounted thereon, the electrical device having electrical pins that protrude through a metal sidewall of an enclosure of the printed circuit board; and a compressible protrusion around the electrical pins formed out of the metal sidewall, the compressible protrusion formed such that (a) an EMI shield does not exist around the electrical pins when the electrical pins are not engaged to an electrical coupler, and (b) the EMI shield is formed by the compressible protrusion around the electrical pins when the compressible protrusion is compressed into contact with a ground pad of the printed circuit board by the electrical coupler engaging the electrical pins; and bending the compressible protrusion inwardly toward the electrical pins.

16. The communication network component of claim 15 , further comprising:

at least one coaxial cable connector.

17. The communication network component of claim 15 , further comprising:

the metal sidewall formed into a continuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

18. The communication network component of claim 15 , further comprising:

the metal sidewall formed into a discontinuous compressible protrusion around the electrical pins.

19. The communication network component of claim 18 , further comprising:

the discontinuous compressible protrusion comprising fingers of metal.

20. The communication network component of claim 19 , further comprising:

the fingers of metal spaced apart by less than a wavelength of a highest frequency signal to be handled by the electrical device.
