SMARTPHONE-BASED METHODS AND SYSTEMS
Arrangements involving portable devices (e.g., smartphones and tablet computers) are disclosed. One arrangement enables a content creator to select software with which that creator's content should be rendered—assuring continuity between artistic intention and delivery. Another utilizes a device camera to identify nearby subjects, and take actions based thereon. Others rely on near field chip (RFID) identification of objects, or on identification of audio streams (e.g., music, voice). Some technologies concern improvements to the user interfaces associated with such devices. Others involve use of these devices in connection with shopping, text entry, sign language interpretation, and vision-based discovery. Still other improvements are architectural in nature, e.g., relating to evidence-based state machines, and blackboard systems. Yet other technologies concern use of linked data in portable devices—some of which exploit GPU capabilities. Still other technologies concern computational photography. A great variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

22 . A method comprising the acts:
identifying, by image fingerprinting, physical objects depicted in plural images captured by a consumer using a camera-equipped portable phone device;
from such identifications of imaged objects, producing a depicted-object-derived profile indicating consumer interests; and
adapting content presented to the consumer on a display of said portable phone device, in accordance with said depicted-object-derived profile, said adapted content including content not captured by the consumer using said camera-equipped portable phone.
23 . The method of claim 22 in which the adapting comprises filtering content for presentation to the consumer.
24 . The method of claim 22 in which the adapting comprises filtering email for presentation to the consumer.
25 . The method of claim 22 in which the adapting comprises selecting visual content for presentation to the consumer.
26 . The method of claim 22 in which the adapting includes presenting, in a gaming world, objects in which the consumer has indicated interest.
27 . The method of claim 22 in which the identifying includes identifying a first object of a first type in one of said images, and identifying a second object of said first type in another of said images, and producing a depicted-object-derived profile indicating consumer interest in objects of said first type.
28 . The method of claim 27 in which said objects of the first type comprise objects used in motorcycling.
29 . The method of claim 27 in which said objects of the first type comprise objects of a particular commercial brand.
30 . The method of claim 27 in which said objects of the first type comprise bicycles.
31 . The method of claim 22 that includes associating confidence metrics with consumer interests indicated in said depicted-object-derived profile.
32 . The method of claim 22 that includes associating scores with consumer interests indicated in said depicted-object-derived profile, and degrading one of said scores over a time interval if a depicted object with which said score is associated is not identified in images captured using said camera during said time interval.
33 . The method of claim 22 that further includes representing said profile in a graph data structure, comprising nodes and links, wherein certain of said nodes represent physical objects, and certain of said links represent relationships between the physical objects and said consumer.
34 . The method of claim 33 in which one of said relationships indicates the consumer is interested in an object, and another of said relationships indicates the consumer owns an object.
35 . A non-transitory computer readable medium containing depicted-object-derived profile information for use in adapting content presented to a consumer, the information being represented in a graph data structure comprising nodes and links, wherein certain of said nodes represent physical objects depicted in imagery captured by the consumer using a camera-equipped portable phone and identified through use of image fingerprinting, and certain of said links represent relationships between the physical objects and said consumer.
36 . The computer readable medium of claim 35 in which one of said relationships indicates the consumer likes an object, and another of said relationships indicates the consumer owns an object.
37 . A system including a processor, a wireless interface, a camera, a display, and data storage, the data storage containing depicted-object-derived profile information for a consumer, the information in said data storage being represented in a graph data structure comprising nodes and links, wherein certain of said nodes represent physical objects depicted in imagery captured by the consumer using a camera-equipped portable phone and identified through use of image fingerprinting, and certain of said links represent relationships between the physical objects and said consumer, the system being configured to adapt content received by the device using said wireless interface, and presented to the consumer on said display, in accordance with said depicted-object-derived profile.
